Cars used the rail bridge until the Ironworkers Memorial Bridge was built. So it could be done again.

There's a service road that connects to the tracks between the southern end of the bridge and the northern entrance to the tunnel. It connects to Skeena Road and Bridgeway Road, which gives easy access to and from Boundary, McGill and Hastings. Emergency vehicles would not have to go too far off of their way and transit could also easily reconnect to regular routes. I think the question would more likely be if the bridge is wide enough for those vehicles - it should be, based on the standard width of a train - and if they would have issues with the turn to and from the service road.

Note there were never cars driving on the rail bridge. You are confusing it with the old rail/car bridge.

Moreover, the existing rail bridge has a lift span which would make it very inefficient

Or confusing it with the 1st New Westminster rail bridge which I think had an upper car or pedestrian deck that was removed.

That bridge repeatedly got taken out by boats.

The current bridge spends most of it's time in the elevated position. It wouldn't be that useful for other user than trains.

That rail bridge still looks exactly like that. And pretty soon way more tankers will be going under that bridge to pick up fuel at the refinery.

I mean if there's going to be an oil spill it's highly unlikely it'll happen by crashing into the rail bridge.

They closed the right lane of the highway last night and were doing work near the Dollarton on-ramp/bus ramp. And more signaling work today. Maybe we'll be open sometime next week.

Interesting design for the MUP next to the 22A offramp. Anyone know what the purpose of these concrete pads is?

I don't know the original intent but this will be very popular by skateboarders.
