The map is largely schematic and is oriented to fit over the doors. I can try to modify it to have north facing up but it's going to be very crowded. Once Valley Line West opens though, they may have to rotate the orientation anyway.

In Vancouver, they just show the stations on the line itself as well as connections. So it's left right regardless of whether it's east west or north south. System wide maps are available on the platforms and at the TVMs.

Looks good and seems like a normal "in car above the door" map to me but it's odd they include all the lines in one map instead of just the one you're on.

Some cities have a larger map on the panels beside the doors. Montreal comes to mind.

ETS frequent peak service

Just in time for return to work/return to school, I had a bit of fun looking through the ETS schedules.

You'll recall, part of the bus network redesign this year was to provide more frequent service on some routes (while abandoning/combining other services and extending some walking distances).

Unfortunately, I didn't do this before the April changeover to provide a comparison, but I've produced a Google map of all ETS services that operate at a 10 minute frequency or better during weekday am peak hours. I excluded any routes that had, say, two runs a few minutes apart, but didn't extend that frequency through the whole peak service. It also doesn't consider the combined effect of two routes operating on the same street, such as along 137th Ave.

I'm most surprised by the amount of frequent service south of the Henday. But it's also a good way to get/keep people out of their cars, I suppose.

The 121 partially runs every 10 minutes from Fraser Way/17 St to Clareview from 7:18 until 9:16.

Getting closer!

Train Testing and Energization of Overhead Wires on 83 Street to Muttart Stop

September 7, 2021 – Starting on or about Friday, September 10th, 2021, TransEd will be expanding train testing and energization of the overhead wires on 83 Street from Argyll Road to the new Muttart Stop on 98 Avenue. Energization of this segment will mean that train testing will be occurring intermittently in this area. Trains will be escorted by crews at all times during this testing phase.

As construction progresses, the overhead wires will be energized on a gradual basis in each area of the 13-kilometre alignment beginning in Mill Woods and ending in Downtown.

For your safety, overhead wires should always be considered energized when strung from power pole to power pole.

I'm hearing from an insider that the trains won't operate until next summer, but he's a grumpy old man who's pessimistic about everything. A security guard at Davies said it's on track for opening 2-3 months from now.

Has ETS announced the target date for first regular trains? Even the month?

Also can you get from Churchill Station underground to a stairwell that is on the east direction track - or do you have to exit going up, cross the west track to get to the east track?

Heads will roll if it's not in 2021.

I REALLY like the look of this new bridge and the trail system/landscaping is very promising.

the bridge itself looks ok, but the overhead power lines ruin the esthetic IMO. that thing was designed for skytrain and it shows

strangely, I don't find the power lines for the capital line bridge noticeable at all. guess it's the lack of competing vertical elements

Same. Nice touch with the lookout points too.

Looks like ice bombs like the ones that terrorized Port Mann Bridge commuters its first winter (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=agD47VbEBYE) shouldn't be an issue with the towers spanning outwards.

They have not. But as Coldrsx said, the expectation is 2021.

And as you've described, we have to cross the street to get to the eastbound track.

Ha! I had exactly the same design thought.

I asked as the City pedway map shows it goes right to the NE corner of the library parkade. You would think they would try to make it convenient for people connecting from the capital line by avoiding having to go up and wait on a corner for any passing Westbound train and street traffic to clear before crossing the road to catch the Eastbound train. I do recall walking from Churchill into the Library - but in this case we might need a new stairwell somewhere in the parkade to get close to the Eastbound platform.

Churchill should've been given a proper larger centre loading platform treatment, fully covered, with the access from the underground platform going straight up to the Valley Line platform. Oh well, too late now.

I guess without the central loading ... some arriving passengers from Lewis Estates might walk across the track to the other platform. Or am I missing something? Is there a fence to prevent that? The booklet issued by ETS calls the station an '"interchange". Which is a crock. Passengers arriving from Millwoods connecting to Blatchford or Clarview do get easier access as stated in the booklet by way of an escalator, elevator and steps to Churchill underground station. But passengers arriving from the Lewis Estate do not have the same easy access and will be waiting to cross until trains are cleared. Central loading and access from Churchill Square should have been in the planning given this IS Edmonton's supposedly "interchange" station in the downtown.
