I wonder how much more it costs vs a regular rectangular panel?

So we are getting a tiny piece of truly curved glass after all. Looks amazing.

Isn't there already quite a bit of curved glass? It appears that the central, tighter curved part of the facade looks like it's all curved glass; the less curved sections on either side are flat panels. (There's curved glass on the car dealership box as well).

Thanks, mcminsen. I haven't seen this upclose in long a while and it seems to be a mix of curved and non-curved glass. I wish the glass/fritting wouldn't appear so green-ish, but the building's shape is good.

Amazing from how many vantage points taller towers improve the view of downtown Vancouver, yet the view from the direct south seems to largely be the only one that dictates tower heights…

Anything that this city does doesn't have to make any sense as long as egos can be inflated, and self-entitlement enhanced.

Still glad that a few sites were selected to go taller during the times of Gregor Robertson, but I suppose all these sites have all been used up. Any more new ideas for downtown Van, or is this it?

That should be counted as part of the original development.

To clarify, are you asking about the differences between the glazing system used between Tower A(Hornby and Drake) vs Tower B (Burrard and Drake)?

Tower A is a combination of three types of glazing system:
From Level ~1-6 is a Structural Silicone Glazed (SSG) Curtain wall system supplied and installed by Alpro Aluminum Products. L1-6 is a combination of commericial, office, and amenity space.
From Level ~L7-L52 is a a combination of thermally enhance window wall and SSG curtain wall strip. If you look at the north side of the building, there is a continuous strip of unbroken window system. These are supplied by Starline Windows Ltd. L7-52 are residential units
From L52-55 are a new type of window system which is called a Hybrid system which are thermally enhanced curtain/window wall system. These are also supplied by Starline Windows. These floors are penthouse floors.

Tower B on the other hand are full custom curtain wall system supplied and installed by Inland Glass and Aluminum with structural steel supports provided by PMC builders.

It is quite difficult to discuss the "performance" difference of each windows as these are specific to the use and the specification of the windows which is more of a question of design. What I can say, however, is that the purpose of the window, aside from the typical water penetration, air leakage, and vapour diffusion envelope requirements, is mostly for aesthetics.

In addition, both buildings are GOLD LEED certified but only Tower A is targeting interior lighting and daylight maximization points. I guess that one big difference from the two towers.

I apologize if I seem rambling on the response, as it is quite challenging to answer the question. Its a very interesting question, however, and something that I would for sure bring up to the architect and envelope designer (when I get the chance!)

Thanks for the detailed explanation!

Basically yes, but I was also wondering how much higher end is the glazing typically used between market sale strata towers vs commercial towers as well as their typical cost differential between the two glazing products since you generally see higher end and higher performance product used on commercial projects where the developer has an incentive to pay more since it remains in their portfolio for an extended period.

In this case, since it's also a completely different product (window wall vs curtain wall), if it were both curtain wall, what is generally the difference in long term performance in the two products and/or the cost differences or that is beyond the scope of your work/department.

Yes, this is today...What the heck! .....(2 hours later, I realized the first curved glass wall is covered with a tarp, here they're on the second (middle) curved wall, I though they took it all down again
