Calgary finally figures it out and now Ottawa is getting confused!

At least Ottawa got the job done on the field. What an upset that was against Edmonton... kudos to anyone who saw that coming and made a few bucks.

I definitely thought the Redblacks jerseys this weekend were their best ones yet, I think with the plad being mostly black along with the helets there's enough black in there.

And yes I appreciate the Calgary Blackreds returning to their Stampeders colours.

All in All great weekend of football, really great to see the fans show up and support the boys (and gals). I also thought that TSN's broadcast appeared to be a bit more "big league" than it has been, anyone else feel that way???

Week 1 ratings were 526000 viewers per game average. The Argos and redblacks really brought ratings down as they only drew in the mid 300 thousands as per 3downnation

The Sask Hamilton game will start at 10 pm on Saturday in the Eastern time zone. 11pm on the east coast. These times are too late.

Yeah, that's ridiculous. There is no reason not to play the game at 7:00pm CST here. This old guy will be in bed by the time the third quarter starts.

I've always been bothered by the way the CFL schedules its game times with respect to the time zone issue.

Want to maximize viewership? It's not hard, since there are usually only two games at most on a given day (three on Sep 11 and Oct 23 this year, but that may only happen once a season).

E.g., Labour Day... a 1 pm start in the East means many western viewers who want to see the Ticats-Argos game are still drinking their morning coffee; would the league get better ratings if that game were scheduled a bit later? Those in the east who want to go to the game at the stadium and then head home and see Edmonton vs. Calgary end up missing a good portion of that match.

Playoff games are especially frustrating in this regard.

I do see they are playing a double-header that night, but both games are in the CST (Regina and Edmonton.) Perhaps playing one of the games at 3 and one at 6 or 4 and 7 would have been an option instead of 5 and 8. As it stands, no one in 2/3rds of the population in Canada will probably even bother to see the kickoff of the game in Saskatchewan.

Hopefully an owner or group that is willing to put up funds for stadium improvement or replacement.

I wonder what's triggering this? Lack of faith in CFL prospects going forward? Low on cash as an organization and looking to sell a relatively successful property for a good amount? Consolidating to indoor-venue only sports to coincide with the new arena?

According to the Rod-man and his unnamed Calgary insider, it was something to the effect of "it hadn't worked out as well for them as they had hoped". Which could mean anything.

I suppose with a new arena in the works the Flames are set... for the Stampeders, by contrast, the heavy lifting of getting a new stadium remains. Maybe after going through that for the hockey team they weren't interested in doing it all again for the football team which is going to be less lucrative anyway?

Stampeders as a whole seems to be on the decline bo levi is banged up still they have lost a lot of good players this off-season the stadium issue is still a major unsolved issue and almost 30 years of dominant football has left the calgary fan base spoiled and the demand for football seems to have declined due to that massive stretch of automatic winning.

It's kind of funny how lots of winning seems to dampen fan enthusiasm a bit. I remember in the early 90s the Bombers were basically at the point where they had enjoyed a solid decade of continuous success but the fanbase became a bit blase about the whole thing. Instead of something to get excited about, winning was just kind of the routine. Then the Reinebold era started and we all suddenly realized how good we had it with Cal Murphy running the show.

Speaking about the Bombers, their game vs. Toronto should be a good matchup of two solid looking teams. Some were surprised that Toronto won last week but honestly with all of those FAs they acquired they look like a powerhouse. I assume that Harris is still out this week along with Adams and Stewart?

Picks for this week:

BC over Calgary (BC looked explosive in the second half of their losss, of course that could be the Riders being prone to big plays)
Winnipeg over Toronto (home field)
Edmonton over Montreal (home field, coming off a loss and I just don't know much about Montreal)
Hamilton over Saskatchewan (sure it's at home, but the Riders looked incredibly blah for 60% of their opening win)

It's pretty fun not having a preseason and having the teams just go at it. Not so good from a figuring out who fits standpoint, but interesting.

HUGE WIN by BC over Calgary last night. Bo Levi 4 interceptions something is definitely wrong with him not sure if his injury issues are permanent now?nice to see the non Alberta teams in the west sitting atop the standings in the west.
