I doubt this venture will be successful. The rent on this location will be a formidable obstacle to success. That and the gong will ring at some point and the building will be sold. It will take more than prayers.

Yes, it will take customers of course to keep them in that location. Only time will tell...

Kinda surprised at the location though for that. Bring it to the people versus making them trek there. It is kinda nomansland right now versus setting up on 104st, 109st south of jasper or the like.

I will certainly appreciate it and hope it connects with the community, but will need to be good, well priced and marketed for people to make that extra block or two trek, especially in winter versus hoping in their car and heading elsewhere.

^There are also a lot of options in that area for coffee, so hopefully it's more heavy on the baking. If it's good, people will go.

I know you're referring to the bakery, but your comments nearly mirror my thoughts on moving taste of edmonton back to the ghetto end of downtown. seriously, what was the sell for that??

It functions far better at Churchill, has better transit options, parking and flows 100% better. Did I enjoy it at the Leg, sure, loved the grounds/grass hill, but the reality is that it simply is better for more people in Churchill.

yeah, the parking around capital blvd isn't great... of course neither is trying to drive there!

if we were actually trying to improve vehicle access to the core, I'd say a SAIT style parkade built into the hill below the leg annex would be a great add to the area

can't say I agree on the rest of your points tho. IMO the much nicer immediate surroundings of the leg grounds provide the better overall human experience, and helps market the city/core better than having the event one block from wastelands... plus having thousands more nearby residents can't hurt.

the streetcar link to whyte is nice too, esp for the people who did drive in from the far flung burbs. makes it easy to see both of edmontons hard to get to areas in the same trip

I did like the Capital Plaza location but I was itching for Churchill Square to be completed so that it would be able to move back. Taste was always at the Square and it just didn't feel the same when they were temporarily moved (definitely some nostalgia there).

'Wastelands' will remain so without people, so having Taste move back to the Square will draw people to the overall area and help fill the void while its on.
