It would be incredibly short sighted and I would like to think that the region has learned its lesson from single tracking in Richmond . Richmond ain't getting no extension anytime soon until they sort that mess out .

Double tracking the Skytrain all the way through will make future extensions easier. And yes, I do feel that we need to do the region a favour by future-proofing the Expo line further east just in case it warrants it. For example, I could legitimately see us extending the Expo line to the area around the Langley Memorial hospital. But that would depend on how eager Langley is to densify to justify that extension as well as many other factors (and it is a very far flung future demand).
Trains to Aldergrove?

Picture another Langley as far away as it is from Whalley, make it half as big, and replace Fleetwood, Cloverdale and Clayton with a bunch of ALR. Not worth it.

Richmond was against Skytrain and wanted on-ground LRT - single tracking the last bit was to make them happy. Langley has wanted this to be Skytrain and was against the plan to run LRT down Fraser Hwy. So I'd be very surprised to see this single tracked between Willowbrook and Langley Centre.

Exactly .

Hence why I mentioned that double tracking it all the way through was future proofing.

One suspects that the ALR will be there until the end of the universe. That's what commuter rail is for (assuming that they don't skip Aldergrove too)

Today, looking at the traffic cameras (which are now offline), Fraser highway between 96 Avenue to 148 Street (This also includes 144 Street between Fraser and 92 Avenue) are now appeared to be closed as part of the beginning of the pre-construction phase of the Fraser Extension. The only camera that's active right now in these areas is the Fraser-144 Street intersection, which only has like a power line maintenance vehicle parked near the intersection.

Google Maps says it's closed until October.

They changed it to a double left from fraser to EB 96th as of today - it was a single left turn yesterday evening. Guess they had to wait until they painted the dotted white line through the intersection

Back from my almost three year hiatus. (I completely forgot about this website at some point because of studies and exams.)

I've noticed the day before that they closed part of Green Timbers along Fraser Hwy for widening it to make way for the Langley extension. I'm wondering when they'll begin building said extension once they'd dealt with widening Fraser Hwy through Green Timbers. Maybe late 2021/early to mid-2022?

I got this notice today for some of the power line work they'll be doing on Fraser Highway near the Quibble Creek Greenway https://imgur.com/a/II4xbEV

I am happy to see extra lanes getting added - a rarity in Metro Vancouver! That stretch of Fraser Highway has always felt so odd being so central, yet a two-lane country road.

Agreed. That part of Fraser Hwy should've been four lanes in the first place when they widened the entire road from 148th to 203rd a while back. It's never fun being stuck within Green Timbers during the morning and afternoon rush.

It's inevitable that the Green Timbers section will be widened, and the Surrey-Langley extension basically catalyzed it.

===

On a somewhat unrelated note, will construction begin sometime in mid-2022, after Fraser Hwy between KGB and 148th, and when BC Hydro relocated the transmission towers?

Oh god can you imagine?

But hey if we're dreaming, there's an actual disused right-of-way that goes to Aldergrove, part of it is now Robertson Crescent but the whole route is still there with nothing on it. In town, it runs kind of behind Parkside Elementary, through behind the abandoned mall and towards Station Road.

Hell, let's just extend it to Abbotsford and Mission, stations at Highstreet, Clearbrook, Sevenoaks, Jubilee Park, and Mission City WCE.

104th Ave (#304)
Scott Road Station - City Hall - Guildford - East Guildford Park and Ride - Barnston Island Ferry terminal

100th Ave (#300)
Scott Road Station - King George Station - Green Timbers - North Surrey Secondary - 160th Street Station (future)

96th Ave (#396)
Scott Road Station - 120th St/96th Ave - Surrey Memorial Hospital - 140th Street Station (future) - 152nd - Tynehead - Walnut Grove - Fort Langley

88th Ave (#388)
Already in use. Add stop at future 152nd Street station + extend east to Walnut Grove/Fort Langley from Carvolth Exchange

84th Ave (#384)
Scottsdale Exchange - Bear Creek Park - 160th Street Station (future)

80th Ave (#380)
152nd Street Station (future) - Fleetwood Park Secondary - 168th Street Station - Langley Events Centre - Willoughby - Trinity Western University

72nd Ave I (#372)
Scottsdale Exchange - Kwantlen University - Newton Exchange - 152nd Street - 152nd Street Station (future)

72nd Ave II (#373)
184th Street Station (future) - East Clayton North - 200th Street - 208th Street - Willoughby - Carvolth Exchange

68th Ave (#368)
184th Street Station (future) - East Clayton - 208th Street - Willoughby - Trinity Western University

64th Ave (#364)
Scottsdale Exchange - Tamanawis Park - Panorama Ridge Secondary - Sullivan Heights Secondary - Cloverdale Athletic Park - 190th Street Station (future) - 200th Street - Kwantlen University Langley

60th Ave (#360)
Scottsdale Exchange - Panorama Park - 152nd St/64th Ave - Cloverdale Athletic Park (168th St/63rd Ave) - Cloverdale Racetrack - 196th Street Station (future)

58th + 56th Ave (Hwy 10) (either #358 or #356)
Scottsdale Exchange - West Newton Community Park - Panorama Village - South Cloverdale - 203rd Street Station (future)
Yeah it would make transit a lot more useful if there was a basic grid in place. On the west side of Fraser Hwy I can see those routes across Surrey.

But... the way a lot of eastern Surrey and Langley Township is currently (low density plus ALR) means most buses running E-W between Fraser Hwy and Langley would be near empty. If that area is built up then it would make sense to run buses but not now. At the moment the only routes all the way across that make any kind of sense are 104th, 88th, 64th and 60th / Hwy 10.

Anything else would be part of a local route.
