Gower has responded to 100% of my emails and does a great job of proactively communicating with his constituants by both email and with a weekly video message (plus virtual meetings).

If you got an 🞵🞵🞵🞵🞵🞵🞵 response from Moffat then likely it was because you were an 🞵🞵🞵🞵🞵🞵🞵 yourself. Usually when you accuse him or other councillors of something without any proof or misrepresent arguments made.

As I've never had a problem with Moffat.

As I've never had a problem with Moffat.

Whenever myself or family members emailed him with concerns, his response is always "not my problem" or "we're wrong". He's an 🞵🞵🞵🞵🞵🞵🞵 on Twitter and on Council as well, so seems like he's just an 🞵🞵🞵🞵🞵🞵🞵.

But anyway, not the thread to discuss whether or not Moffatt's an 🞵🞵🞵🞵🞵🞵🞵.

Never interacted with Gower myself, but he seems to be one of the most engaged suburban Councillors. He has a balanced approach. Reasonable. The last Planning Committee is the first time he seemed frustrated/short fused, but that's understandable after the whole Harder debacle throwing him into a tough position.

We all seem to have different experiences with various Councillors. All are likely valid. Who knows why some emails are responded to and others aren't. Junk mail? Do some Councillors not respond to emails they don't agree with? Do they ignore anything they think does not concern the. We may never know.

Did they build some kind of foundation for this bridge within the last week?

I saw the earlier pictures/video of them digging out the road, but would some kind of foundation not been required for the new bridge to rest upon?

Also it looks like they need to dig it out deeper underneath; how can they do that without impacting whatever the bridge is sitting on?

At the end of the Jersey barricades, where the Transitway turns, you can see the level of the bedrock. It is only a few feet below grade in this area. All they had to do was to scrape away the overburden and spread a thin layer of aggregate to form a solid, level, base. Then the new bridge deck, with its big ‘feet’, was moved into place, supported on that base.

The bridge is longer than the width of the trench under it will be. As the trench is mined out of the bedrock below the deck, there will be enough bedrock left on the sides to support the deck.

That is a really cool project. It's going to be cool both in the East and West to be driving along the highway with train alongside. When the traffic starts to get bad again post-pandemic this will be a great advertisement!

As I drive to work down the 417 in the morning I always take a peak to see progress along Connaught. I found it hard to understand how it all lined up originally but you can easily see the flyover and beyond from that vantage.

Cool- thanks! I imagine the local bedrock conditions explain why this technique can't be used everywhere.

I wouldn’t say it could be used anywhere (some soil conditions might not make it possible), but you don’t need to get down to bedrock. What you do need is to have it on preloaded soil and if the overpass has been there for several years, the soil will already be preloaded.

It's nice to see some of these big grade separation infrastructure pieces getting completed well ahead of the rest of the project. I feel like these are the parts fo the project that can really slow things down and can't be sped up when we get to the end of the project and start trying to minimize the inevitable delays.

Kanata North Business Association’s Plans for Autonomous Vehicle Transit

Today, the City of Ottawa’s Transportation Committee received a presentation from the Kanata North Business Association outlining a plan to use autonomous vehicles to connect Kanata North to the city’s existing and planned rapid transit networks. This is wonderful news for the Kanata North Technology Park – Canada’s largest tech park and a critical driver of economic growth and employment in our city.

The results of a feasibility study show that the opportunity exists to use autonomous vehicles to help commuters get from existing and future transit stations to the Kanata North Technology Park and nearby federal facilities. The study suggests using an on-demand autonomous shuttle service that would run between Moodie Station and the Kanata North Technology Park via Carling Avenue. An autonomous electric bus would connect the area to the future Stage 3 O-Train extension via the planned March Road bus rapid transit corridor.

The Kanata North Business Association proposes to partner with Invest Ottawa to start a one-year pilot of the shuttle service from Moodie Station to the new National Defence Headquarters or possibly in the Technology Park.

I’m extremely excited about this project as it will further support the growth of the local tech park and will share updates and next steps with our community as they become available.

Seeing all of those apartments lining Richmond shows how the city got it right by choosing this route (though I still wish the split could have been before Lincoln Fields, but that would have been very expensive). Lets hope we can see some TOD on the other side of Byron (and to backfill sections of Richmond that don't have density today).

For the purposes of the Confederation Line, I agree this was by far the best route. The most direct route, serving medium and high densities, using an existing (former transit) corridor.

Imagine if the NCC would have approved the City's first choice of the Ottawa River Parkway. A winding RoW slowing down trains and increasing maintenance costs overtime, a reduced catchment area. Lower visibility. Possible safety issues at night.

I know many would have preferred Carling, but it would have been a longer route with a few sharp 90 degree turns and more stations (not ideal for what's essentially a cross-town rapid transit line). Carling will be better served by BRT-lite and eventually, maybe, a surface tramway.
