The slab there is extra-thick for some reason, so the floor level is not the same as all the others. Those are custom sheet metal panels, but they're not a 'railing' height. Something else will be mounted from the inside, I think.

I didn't expect to say this at the end of construction, but I prefer this side of the building due to the cheapo balconies ruining the wavy effect on the other side. It's a fine looking building from this angle... with the exception of the horrid gray block of a podium that faces the low rises in the neighbourhood. They could have done better there...but hey, it's Claridge.

Looks to me that was done on purpose to plan ahead of another (possible) building on that block similar to the Plaza / Envy site.

Wasn't their original intent to buy the adjacent properties and build a second tower or different building footprint, but those properties refused to sell? Then as soon as construction started, the little church-looking building sold. The grey walls are a very purposeful "screw you" to the neighbours who wouldn't give Claridge what they wanted.

Here's an aside comment that sent me off on an enjoyable catchup on this thread, and first-time read (skipping a year or two at a time since 2007 history is ancient in the development world) of the Soho Italia thread. That was the likely source of the misinformation, not the Icon. I couldn't figure out how someone would equate unfinished balconies with bankruptcy.

The developers always seem to win. Read, big money wins. Look at that terrible condo at the corner of Carling and Preston. Money won the day. It now sits, as I understand it, bankrupt. How much is that costing the City in lost revenue.

Probably being held up by the bean counters at Claridge. It's a condo, they have people's money already, so they can dilly dally around until they find a cheap ass balcony solution. Who cares about occupancy dates, they don't want to spend to fix the problem. I can't see the delays being about anything else.

As per a recent communication received from Claridge, interim occupancy to begin this October/November 2021.

4 years late is a long time, IMO. Many things could have happened during that period to people/purchasers, from both a personal and professional perspective.

Considering Claridge first marketed and started selling units for this building back in 2013, that is 8 years in the making and counting. I have no dog in this fight e.g. I did not buy any unit in this project but I sincerely hope the folks (and I am talking about the regular Joe Blow and Jane Doe, not the heavy hitters who bought several units to *park* their $, without blinking an eye) will get to take possession sooner rather than later and start enjoying their new place or sell to hopefully pocket some profits or whatever the case may be.

Insides look bare as well.. wonder how the interior construction is coming along.

I thought the new occupancy date was something like Sept-Oct of this year. Doesn't looks like it. Anybody have any info on when that will be?

Although this really looks bad on Claridge, it's the first time, as far as I know, that they've struggled so much to complete a tower. All other projects, before and after this one, went up fast with few issues.

I'm more concerned with the safety issues from earlier on in the project that eventually took a life than the balcony fiasco.

Am I seeing things or is that one floor much further ahead than the rest? It looks like it has floor protection in and even some fancy looking woodback chairs and furniture wrapped in plastic....
