OMG, that's hilarious. They even modelled cars stuck behind buses and trying to dodge around them, with varying degrees of zipper-merge success! Watch 1:20-1:30.

Huh, interesting.. I didn't realize that TI Corp was even still a thing, given that it was basically created in order to facilitate public-private partnerships in the Gateway/Port Mann-Highway 1 project (and presumably subsequent projects as well as the tolling of the new Port Mann bridge). It appears as if it's been transformed by the current government into an organization to manage major transportation capital projects rather than relying on Translink to staff up and down.

I wonder why they don't handle it within a ministry?

It appears that it is. In June 2018, the Government of B.C. re-purposed TI Corp to become the Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure’s major project governance and delivery organization.

TI Corp is currently delivering the Pattullo Bridge Replacement Project, the Broadway Subway Project and the Kicking Horse Canyon Project – Phase 4.

In the past, the Provincial government would incorporate a crown corporation to handle the project:
"Rapid Transit Project 2000 Ltd." was for the Millennium Line
"Canada Line Rapid Transit Inc." was for Canada Line.
I don't think there was one for the Evergreen Line (?)

So the plan now is to just keep a permanent crown corp indefinitely - not complaining, but does Metro Van have the endless backlog of projects needed to sustain that?

Changing City's list had Kicking Horse Canyon Hwy 1 too, so not just Metro Vancouver.

The corporate entity would probably be used whenever they enter a big P3 project, but you'd think they would try to isolate liability with separate corporations the way private developers do.

Not really, Metrolinx is akin to Translink. This just provides management for the construction of large scale projects once they are approved by the province and funded, they are not involved in planning.

Translink is more like GO.

It’s organized differently so there is no direct comparison but I don’t agree.

The way I see it the closest would be Metrolinx equivalent to Translink, TTC equivalent to CMBC, GO equivalent to WCE.

There is also the provincial government Infrastructure Project Management organization.

https://www.infrastructurebc.com/

I think it hard to compare this to Ontario. The system is BC is quite different.

Trasnlink operates transit systems and bridges in Metro Vancouver.

BC Transit does the same in the rest of the province. That said in many communities BC Transit also outsources operations to a private sector operator.

Unless CMBC operations are gonna be expanded to cover SkyTrain and Seabus, I wouldn't really compare it to the TTC.

I did mentioned the building has got to go, and it's going now! In its place will be a future commercial/residential/mixed-use development which will integrate within the Skytrain Canada and Millennium Lines.

That's interesting. Do you have a link? It's always been described as a commercial site, with a replacement for City Hall.

GO is more than West Coast Express (WCE). GO even has its own fleet of double decker commuter buses and 100s of other buses, on top of the large fleet of commuter trains it runs.

However GO was like the West Coast Express back in 1967 when it started with a single line, just like WCE now.

Hopefully with lots of space for the city so they don't have to continue renting luxury space at Crossroads and in the new building just constructed.

Ron.

Like I said, there is no direct comparison, purely from a high level perspective, planning vs operations.
