Very curious what's happening in the back there. Why are they digging a whole and building a mound of dirt. And why did they put a crate in the hole? Also what are these 12 black tanks at the back for?

The black tanks are sediment tanks that collect runoff from the site and loose sediment sinks at the bottom before they are later sucked up by vacuum trucks. The water is let out to drain once the larger sediment has sunk. The tanks prevent large amounts of sediment from clogging up the local drains and culverts that are generated by these large construction excavation sites. They are a requirement for any major construction project that has extensive excavation.

Lived here for a couple years. The squealing noise was bad for a couple of weeks and has seemed to have gotten better. They are doing a ton of construction on the track so maybe there was an alignment issue? There is no reason for the trains to make that noise as most trains do not. A train going by is not bad at all but the squealing noise the city needs to look into. This area has the potential to be really nice when all finished with the park to the East.

The City has no jurisdiction over the Rail Road. It was there 100 years ago, and nothing gonna change; ruther only gets worse because they are adding a third track. Once the Holdom Ave overpass is completed in a few years, it will worsen because the train will be able to sit idle.

I was referring to the rail squeal which is not normal. Did the city not have a say in approving the Holdom overpass? I am pretty sure this has been looked into with track improvements rail noise can be reduced significantly. Also the city can work with the railway to make these improvements. I think living next to a busy highway is worse where the noise is constant or a railyard where they shunt.

I think I do recall concerns about the new configuration which will allow the trains to marshall/shunt farther to the west, closer to residential areas. The project includes:

A new rail siding track running from Willingdon Avenue to Piper
Avenue, parallel to the two existing tracks, to accommodate
trains accessing the Thornton Tunnel

Shunting is when they join trains together like in New Westminster. They won't be doing this here. Trains will wait to go into the Tunnel East of Beta which already occurs periodically here.

But I think if this causes a big increase noise the City will have a big problem with all the developments going up right here.

I don't see any plans of a pedestrian overpass that connects to the bike path. That's a shame

Is there any timeline for the park considering that they are already building phase 2? Brentwood seriously needs some park space as there is currently nothing nearby. Both Metrotown and Lougheed have it much better in terms of nearby green space.

When Lumina tower 1,2, 3 was being heavily marketed, there was mention of pedestrian overpass and the end of Beta over to Costco, but then not sure it was City 's plan or developer's vague promise. I vaguely remember there was a model overpass in the grand construction model.

Nah, not a tunnel. Even if they just clear an walking path with stop signs and bars for approaching trains, much like Rupert or Renfrew train crossing.

There needs to be an overpass. I hope this was a requirement otherwise a complete planning failure if they do not. I walk way across the tracks is not only dangerous but you will have the trains blowing their horns 24/7 at people crossing.

It depends on where they are going... They move faster when they are heading towards Vancouver and slower when going through the tunnel.

Frequency I'd say one every 1 to 2 hours somedays less some days more. It depends on the time of year. My bet is there will be an overpass when Lumina completes I'd put money on it.
