I can't speak to Queen Street as I haven't been since before the pandemic, but Sparks has been a dog's breakfast of interlock, tiles and concrete for as long as I can remember. Interlock/pavers are replaced regularly even in temperate climates; the problem with Sparks is the city's piecemeal approach to "maintaining" it over the years. Even so, I imagine if Sparks was concrete it would have been resurfaced several times by now as concrete inevitably cracks, sinks and erodes. I digress...

C’est ça qui est ça. Very much looking forward to seeing the final product. Can't wait to make this a pit stop on my bike rides along the river.

Glad to see they are not putting the brake on their plans because of the pandemic. I wish the hotel planned in the old mill was part of phase 1.

I agree. That building is in an advanced stage of deterioration. I'm afraid it may not be around by the time phase 2 starts.

Bidding opens Wednesday for inaugural ride on interprovincial zipline

Staff Reporter, Ottawa Citizen
Publishing date: May 19, 2021 • 2 hours ago • 1 minute read

If you’re looking for a way to end your COVID-19 distancing with a boom, online bidding has opened for the first rides on the new international zipline between Ottawa and Gatineau, now officially called “Interzip Rogers.”

“As the very first official riders of Interzip Rogers, you and your +1 will be invited to the grand opening ceremony,” the operators said in a release Wednesday

A VIP treatment, including formal presentations at the ceremony, a bottle of champagne and exclusive souvenirs are part of this package.”

The operators noted the date of the ceremony and zipline will depend on relaxation of COVID-19 restrictions.

Bidding is now live online and will close on June 4.

All proceeds will go to the following sponsors: BCG Ottawa, Centraide Outaouais, Centre de Pédiatrie Sociale de Gatineau (CPSG), Maison de la famille de Gatineau, Ottawa River Keeper, OrKidstra, Ottawa Senators Community Foundation and the Algonquin Way Cultural Centre.

Meanwhile, organizers also announced that the team behind the 30-year-old Great Canadian Bungee Experience in Wakefield will be in charge of Interzip Rogers’ operations.

The zipline’s promoters said they are committed to implementing the directives outlined in the Alliance de l’industrie touristique du Québec’s Plan de sécurité sanitaire COVID-19, based on provincial recommendations, and the Event Safety Alliance’s Reopening Guide for event professionals during COVID-19 in Ontario to ensure all public health guidelines are respected throughout the summer.

Oops. We forgot to render all these massive pipes right at the eye level. Honest mistake.

Oh and that staircase down to the water with people and kayaks on our drawings? Yeah forget about it too.

Very curious to see how they will make this look ok. I'm worried Zibi may lose a lot of what made the initial concept special.

Don't get me wrong, it will still be an amazing project, but it may fall just short of what we may call "world-class" design/function wise.

Snapped that picture from a similar POV on my run yesterday.
Not seeing anything on that concrete wall to build that staircase. It would be a massive disappointment if they end up not building it...
I hope I'm wrong.

Anyone know what exactly are all those pipes for? And why can't they be moved somewhere a little more unobtrusive?

They are for the District Energy system, the central heating and cooling system that uses heat from the Kruger plant and the river . Not sure where else they could have been installed.
