And hey, if the city booms and grows a decade or two down the line, perhaps the baseball 'stadium' could be demolished to make way for new development. Right now, I do not see any demand for this property, so a 'stadium' is better than an ugly empty lot for another couple of decades (or longer).

I’m with you on this one. I will disagree about living next to the rail line as in Toronto and in Ontario, there are countless condo towers and houses right next to rail lines. A baseball facility next to a farmers market next to some residential (closer to the Broad Street side) and a pedestrian bridge link to downtown would work well.

That parking lot makes me really angry. There should be zero surface level parking lots in the railyards. It’s prime real estate.

That's my issue as well. I'm not terribly bothered by building a baseball stadium downtown, but surface level parking should be at an absolute minimum. We do not need more parking in downtown Regina.

I’m sure this will come up in the city council discussions. A prominent bus stop/loading drop off right at the baseball stadium on Dewdney would be a good good thing. Also a bus stop/loading area loop further into the rail yards closer to where the pedestrian bridge would be would also be good too.

Completely agree, the north end bus dropoff/pickup at Mosaic Stadium is a big plus, so convenient. If they can do something like this on Dewdney I think it would be very successful. Can already picture my family and I gonna for fish and chips are Bushwakkers before a game.

Hopefully this project doesn't advance past the concept phase. The best use of this land is one that bridges the Warehouse District with the downtown. This plan, between the design and limited use, doesn't do that in a significant way.

This is certainly not my idea of the best way to use this land. It would be easier to get behind it if I knew a bit more about the proposed flex uses ie. markets, festivals etc. There should be zero surface parking built and a partnership with Regina Centre Crossing and the Cornwall Centre to use their parking. I would like to see a residential component built in as well. Again, not my first choice for this land by a long shot but if done right it could work. Side note, I'm assuming Rebellion would be the craft brewery mentioned. This would be built right on top of them would it not?

Not quite, Rebellion is further east in the railyards. I believe you can see their building in the background of some of the renders.

I think the problem is that the site has sat empty for a very long time. It obviously means that the hopes of some high density mixed use development isn't in the cards at this time. Do we just leave it empty instead?

For what it's worth, the Red Sox currently have zero dollars put towards this stadium and have received confirmation from both the City and Province that no funding is available.

This project is already dead.

I have not had a chance to read this report on a new Arena yet, but my first impression is that for $100 million we would not get much more than a shinier Brandt Centre. They are talking 10,000 seats =/- 20% but I do not see that as doable for $100 million, unless it really is just a glorified Agridome.

I mean, isn't that the purpose of building a new arena? Brandt Centre is basically 45 years old so something will need to be done at some point. Building a 15,000 seat stadium when the main tenant struggles to draw 5,000 is a tough sell.

New Mosiac is basically a shinier Taylor Field with 10% more seats.

If we build the same size, we will continue to get passed over by travelling shows.

If this ballpark goes through, we suddenly have a small-capacity outdoor venue for events and a large-capacity outdoor venue for events. But we will not have a medium-capacity venue for year round events, which is exactly what a new arena of ~15,000 would provide.

New Brandt.
Masters was saying since the election Lawson replacement needs to be considered.
CFL is struggling and our stadium is still being paid off.
COVID means decreased revenues, more govt debt.

I have some concerns with all the spending demands on luxuries. The city is pressed to pay its bill as it for road maintenance, sidewalk repair, etc etc etc.
