The airport thread got busy again. The end of Covid must be approaching.

Time to get back to debating when and on what carrier Asian service will begin!

Seeing that Alaskan jet with snow all around it would make me question whether that was actually in Austin if I didn't know any better.

Alaska is increasing SEA-AUS from 3x to 4x daily and PDX-AUS from 1x to 2x daily this summer. Will be using E175s on the new flights.

How is that giant Ukrainian plane going to leave with enough fuel to get back home? That thing looks like it needs 10 miles of runway.

The AN-124s were most likely empty of cargo and they did make a stop in Anchorage on the way back. They probably shot off like a rocket. A huge wing and tons of power.

I don't believe there's *any* footage of aircraft taking off and landing at the old Robert Mueller? I see plenty of photos but the only video I see of an aircraft operating out of there is this one. An AA DC10 seen from above in a hot air balloon.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5dRnUM1HvM8

I remember a couple of times when I was young aircraft buzzing right over the highway... real low of course.

Even rarer, probably nobody has ever recorded a landing or takeoff from inside the aircraft?

Not even the abandonedairfields website has any mention of videos.

There are a couple videos of one of the commercial jets being shuttled from Mueller to Bergstrom. Here’s one: https://youtu.be/ba8ol9szPE4

That looks like a DC-10. That would have been a rare plane.

From other accounts, the DC10 was actually a common sight at RMM for years.

I actually even remember seeing a photo in a building of one on final to RMM (off in the distance, airport not visible).

Also a photo of an AA MD80 being pretty much over the highway. Forget where I saw that. Wish someone would compile this stuff.

There are some good shots of planes landing/departing Mueller in this clip

There are a couple landings shown towards the end of this 1961 video tour of the new terminal.
The control tower segment with the footage starts at 20:17.

I still remember being able to walk right up to the gate to see off family members back in the day at Mueller.

It would have been cool if Mueller didn't get bulldozed and instead became Austin's executive airport. Far into the future it could've been the Midway to our O'hare. If you guys like the plane flying over highway shots then you'll love plane spotting at San Antonio.

I'll take the dense urban near-central neighborhood over an executive airport.

I'm a pilot and I don't think of myself as a rich 🞵🞵🞵🞵🞵🞵🞵. Mueller could be doing what Austin Executive does now, diverting traffic from ABIA and allowing flight training at a towered airport. There are plenty of YouTube channels up of modest people showing off their love of flying. Or in the future like I had mentioned Mueller would be nicely set up to be a secondary commercial airport if there ever is a need. I don't know why I even bothered replying as some of your comments tend to display your attitude.

Midway and O'Hare are much further apart than Mueller and ABIA are. And, someone with more airport knowledge can correct me if I'm wrong, but, the two flightpaths cross each other on approach/departure (north departure from ABIA and east approach to Mueller).

Additionally, it would be many, many decades before Austin would come anywhere near close to a population which would "require" two commercial airports.

For what it's worth - I actually love the density of the new Mueller.
