Wow glad to see them moving fast on the demo at least. I had no idea this was starting so soon.

Pedantically speaking, it was more of a cell phone and accessory store - they haven't rented videos since 2012.

Anyone know what's happening with this site?

They starting clearing it out last week and when I spoke with someone there yesterday he claimed it was to be used as staging area for equipment in support of subway construction, including the stations at Laurel and Cambie.

I know that the BC Cancer centre did plan on parking there while holding until any new construction, but I believe that as it's just been weeds for the past 12 years, there wasn't that much demand for that. Then again, with the removal of parking on 10th, perhaps this will be used to provide some??

No, this makes no change to the existing fare system.

Now if Translink changes to distance based by 2025 is another question.

I think he's just asking if the bus loop is behind the faregates, not whether the fares structure will change.
I doubt that would be the case, though, as Translink gets data from Compass Card use and tapping on exiting the faregates at the station would be needed to for Skytrain-specific and tapping upon boarding a bus for bus route-specific data.

Two story red painted cinder block construction building just north of future Great Northern Way–Emily Carr station and in the path of train route connection eastward to VCC-Clark station
has now been fully demolished. Formerly Monte Clark Gallery / Equinox Gallery.

There are contractors on site stripping out material. They're 1950s buildings, so likely potentially toxic materials, especially asbestos. The Main and Laurel station sites are now clear of buildings, although not yet completely cleared sites; they were still removing the demolition debris earlier this week.

Some info from:

Broadway Subway Construction Current Work
https://www.broadwaysubway.ca/construction/current-work/

So you got the usual Geo-Technical work and Utility Re-Location work. Demolition starting/started at Cambie and Oak stations, anyone going to be in the area for SSP pictures?

In terms of demolition:

Great Northern Way-Emily Carr Station:

"April 1 – The parking lot north of Emily Carr University of Art + Design will be closed and fenced off as part of the construction area.
April 8 – E. 1st Avenue north of Emily Carr University of Art + Design from the university’s loading bay west to the roundabout will be fenced and closed to the public.
April 12 – Thornton Street will be closed and fenced off between Great Northern Way and E. 1st Avenue.
The above closures will be in effect for the duration of Broadway Subway Project construction."

Broadway-City Hall Station:

"Demolition work begins at 400 W. Broadway April 6-May 5, 2021, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday to Friday."

This tired and terribly under-utilized block (for the area it is in) will finally be put out of its misery starting Tuesday.

Oak VGH Station:

"Crews are processing and hauling demolition debris March 29-April 9, 2021, Monday-Friday, 7 a.m.-8 p.m. Noisy work will only occur 10 a.m.-3 p.m."

"March 29, 2021 Update: The Broadway Subway Project Corporation (BSPC) has completed the demolition of 906, 916, and 922 W. Broadway (see March 12, 2020 notification). Over the next week, BSPC will be processing and hauling the demolition debris. This will entail minimal trucking for approximately one to two weeks. Sidewalks and on-street parking will be available during debris processing and hauling."

https://app.simplycast.ca/?e=email/share/14UEhXzucvVYRLHM_dyf2YRw

In progress...

South Granville Station:

"Removal of hazardous materials in preparation for structural demolition at 1409, 1431, 1441 and 1451 West Broadway.
Work occurs 7 a.m.-3 p.m., Feb 8 to approximately mid-April."

In progress...

Arbutus Station Building Demolition:

"Work completed except for delivery of site trailers."

"901 Great Northern Way

In preparation for construction of the elevated guideway portion of the Broadway Subway Project, a portion of the building located at 901 Great Northern Way is being removed and replaced with a new foundation and façade.

A temporary construction hoarding wall has been installed to separate the construction area from businesses.

Work on this building is expected to be finished by summer 2021."

Sounds like someone at the barber.. just a little off the back please. How much do they need?

^More or less along the lines of what was done at the Safeway at Commercial-Broadway.

As for how much, I would assume to match the setback of the building to the west.

Oak VGH Station (Broadway and Laurel St)

That was quick... all gone. 950 W Broadway is the next standing building in the block now.

Broadway-City Hall Station (Broadway and Cambie St)

Stores are vacated and the site completely fenced up. Still standing though.. for now.

What is the fate of that single guideway once the elevated extension is built? I hope it's extended and switched to the main guideway, to be used as a storage track. if it's just going to be left like that, then trains which are about to begin service could begin from here in VCC station.

They probably start service at Arbutus Station.
This will probably remain for maintenance equipment.

From the plans it will still be there. There's barely enough room for the new main guideway, they can't fit in any extension of that guideway.
