As both of my kids have turned vegetarian, we've been trying some vegetarian establishments around town.

An Chay on Japser Ave and 112 St is a Vietnamese restaurant that only has vegetarian Vietnamese food. My favourite is the Bun Ba Mau (three colour vermicelli). They have vegan options.

Cafe Mosaics on Whyte Ave east of 109 St, I had the Laughing Monkey Hot Pot and it was honestly one of the more delicious soups I've ever had. They have vegan options.

The Buckingham on Whyte Ave between Calgary Trail and 105 St, their vegan "fried chicken" is pretty convincing with the garlic fries. Note that it's made of seitan which is made from vital gluten flour so unfortunately people with Celiac disease or gluten intolerant will not be able to eat this. One of my kids didn't like this. Tried their poutine too and while the "cheese" is more like ricotta, it at least tastes like a real poutine. Everything here is vegan.

Padamanadi on 101 St north of 107 Ave, I had this eggplant dish there and it was really good.

a partial/part time vegetarian/vegan? i didn’t know that was possible! doesn’t “being” something require more commitment and consistency than “not for yesterday or for tomorrow but just for today”?

if you wanted to say “i also enjoy eating there even as a non-vegan/non-vegetarian””, it would probably mean more as well as being more accurate as it states the meals are equally as good as those that aren’t vegan or vegetarian.

you can dismiss this is irrelevant or petty or say that’s what i really meant if you want grasshopper but consistency and accuracy in what we do and say is important, even with the little things because they are the foundation.

If you are "mentoring" someone, could you save the rest of us from it?

I apologize and should have rephrased what I said.

I enjoy non-meat options/dishes/choices more and more these days.

Sorry for being unclear or with a lack of 'consistency'.

I heard that Fleisch will be expanding into the Cartago space, given that they have the same owners. Is that the case?

To be fair, he didn't say what he converted to.

I've definitely reduced my meat intake.

Also my vegan friends love The Moth. I've had a few dishes, very good. Worth checking out.

My wife and I were huge fans of Veggie Garden in Chinatown, but sadly they closed at the end of last year. The owners did say that they are open to locating somewhere less sketchy in the future (I'm hoping they reopen on 118th Ave, close to our place!), as their old location did have it's fair share of issues.

Indian Fusion has relocated to Old Strathcona in the space formerly occupied by The King And I restaurant.
Also in Old Strathcona, the Second Cup on 106 St is being transformed into a bubble tea space.

We will check The Moth out. Thanks!

Would be nice if Veggie Garden came back. A little sad that Chinatown has been on a downward slide. Vancouver's Chinatown is blocks away from the notorious Downtown Eastside and it seems to be doing better with way more traffic.

Interestingly in Kelowna where I worked in the Landmark District, there was the Lake Tai vegetarian Taiwanese restaurant in a strip mall nearby. I thought it was pretty random (for Kelowna) but the food was good.

I wouldn't say it's a definite downward slide, as new businesses are still opening (i.e. Spirit Bistro, new Chinatown Herbal building, new Italian Bakery under construction, Co Chin Saigon restaurant, etc.), but there are considerable social disorder issues that need to be addressed for sure.
