Don't you mean: It will be gone as soon as the UBC extension opens....?

The station design fits really nicely with the city of vancouver's plan for the northbound track on arbutus street and the southbound track on the greenway. Both tracks would get a platform facing the skytrain station entrance, making for a quick and efficient transfer.

I was hoping the arbutus station design would accommodate routing the streetcar under broadway in a cut and cover tunnel at the skytrain mezzanine level, but that's clearly not going to happen with this station design.

The intended streetcar alignment. That's three lanes or less for one of the the busiest parts of Arbutus; let's hope the traffic planners know what they're doing.

WRT development, the underground utilities don't extend to the north parking lot; might be able to support a two-floor restaurant or something.

They will close it when construction happens.... so, both of you used to wrong wording.

Are you suggesting that the Arbutus station will be out of service while the UBC extension is being built? 'Cause that seems unlikely to me. I assume the line will be terminated in a way that allows them to extend it without disrupting the station.

Yeah they'll probably do enough work on extending the tunnel beyond the station so when the extension happens there won't be too many disruptions.

I agree and think they will extend beyond the actual station. I would imagine a long enough space to store a train set or two and even a switch spot somewhere for ease of turning around trains to go back.

I think swimmer means the bus loop... and since we still need the B-Line during construction (and for it to run from Arbutus), that's not likely either.

God the Arbutus & Broadway streetcar alignment is among the dumber ideas to come out of City Hall. Right of way not wide enough for two tracks and a pathway? Ya, why don't we take the large vehicle that doesn't corner well, make it take an extra four curves, fouling the south-bound track twice to put it out in the street right of way, since as we all know pedestrians and cyclists are much worse at cornering than a train.

So true.

The end of the line will often need more more facilities than the average station on the line. More elevators/escalators, ticket machines, parking, a bigger bus loop, etc. to handle the increased load that comes with being the end-of-line focus point.

The challenge is when the EOL may be extended and the station then returns to an average level of facilities requirements.

Seattle has come up against this problem a few times already, for example.

Yeah, I think this part of the planned streetcar needs to be reworked. I would like to see them bury one of the directions and stack the other one on top of it. It would be more expensive but you could probably just do shallow cut and cover.

No because a shallow cut and cover is blocked underground by the mezzanine level of the skytrain station, which is one level down underneath broadway.

They could extend the walkspace into the right lane instead of the northbound tram - just make it part of the sidewalk.

My immediate thought was, "Well why not elevate it then? Even better, you could then cross Broadway with no disruption!", and then I realised I had just reinvented Skytrain

Daily Hive has posted renderings and detailed drawings of the stations. (LINK)

I can’t find the original source location, they’re not on the project website.

They are probably going to start the Spring Open House #2 for the design process. And they were supposed to send updated drawing documents to the city in March as well.

Substantially more done now. It was interesting watching the relatively new building on Main (with Noodle Box and Rosemary Rock Salt) get torn apart.

The view across Broadway from in front of the Lee Building.
