I see renovations are underway at 1801 Hamilton main floor where HSBC is set to takeover the former Conexus space. MEPP has the other side of the main floor, so it is fully occupied.

Does anyone know who if anyone is taking the former HSBC branch on the main floor of Hill Tower I?

Would love them to fully renovate Hill Tower I lobby, maybe a restaurant space there with patio onto the plaza?

I know downtown is dead due to COVID, but there is sure a lot of renos going on. I assume people are taking advantage of low occupancy and perhaps lower construction costs.

I see contractors at SaskPower, Canada Life, 1801 Hamilton, Hill Tower II, Prince of Wales Building (old City Hall). I believe there also also work ongoing at SaskTel, SGI and elsewhere.

Also would appreciate some work done on the main floor portion of the Royal Bank building. To make it a more active/attractive corner, new sidewalks, and restaurant on half the main floor space or retail would be helpful. The Hamilton street side needs something and also across the street where the Bank of Nova Scotia former space was also needs something. Maybe some added landscaping and updated lighting and signage. I also always wished the Royal Bank tower was taller. Reminds me of a short First Canadian Place in Toronto. Anyone know if the structure could be built on to be taller?

Could definitely be a nice restaurant/bar space to connect to the other offerings/nightlife along Scarth.

He knew it was against the law to build it. Why he still applied is beyond me. Waste of time and money.

As divided as this forum can be sometimes, it seems like we are all united in our distaste for this proposal and developer.

Under the Fougere admin, I'm not sure it wouldn't have been approved. He tended to side with developpers pretty often.

Against the law? He was literally applying to be allowed to build what he wanted.

This proposal had no chance ever. Hawkins lives nearby and he would never have allowed it.

Yeah I heard an interview of his and he was claiming he originally bought it for his parents but then after he bought it he realized to fix all the issues was going to be hundreds of thousands of dollars. So he either didn't do any due diligence when he bought it, or he's using that as justification for this proposal. I suspect it is the latter and he had no plans for moving his parents in there. His claims about how much work it needs also seemed far fetched. In any event, he got shot down so will be interesting to see what he does next. My worry is he will continue to let it deteriorate and then try again in the future. He probably should sell it to an owner who wants a character home who would put money into fixing it up.

Speaking of office renovations, but not downtown, they've renovated the old Greystone building on Wascana parkway and it looks great. They've upgraded the outside so that it has the TD branding and office building colours, black charcoal on the outside and the green TD sign. Not sure if they are also renovating the inside or not.

I admit I am a bit perplexed by this as I assumed that TD would have at some point closed this office down and offered any remaining employees jobs in Toronto. But perhaps when they bought Greystone it included the building and they do have plans to keep an office presence here. If I get a chance I will try to take some pics.

While I didn't like this particular proposal (Cook House) as it seemed pretty tacky and not well thought out, I am not against making changes to the Albert St. mansions. Denser infill is a good thing. On Albert St. that doesn't necessarily need to take the shape of condo buildings, but could even include sub-dividing some of those ridiculously large lots. And personally, I wouldn't actually be opposed to condos there, provided they met certain conditions (kept a similar aesthetic to the area (brick, etc), had minimal surface parking (preferably underground), etc. I think there's an honest debate to be had over that.

These are my thoughts exactly.

And, yeah, it didn't fit into the neighbourhood now. But that kind of change has to start somewhere, if its going to start at all.

So they are definitely also renovating the inside, and if like the outside it should be quite nice. I see that Harvard has a sign up for lease so I guess Harvard owns the building not TD.

Greystone has already downsized its space, which coincided with the renovations. But you can assume it will only be a small branch office within 5-10 years.
