It isn't the most readily identifiable angle... I recognized it because I've walked over that bridge a few times, and I don't think I've ever seen, or at least noticed, power lines with that type of tower anyplace else so it's a very distinctively Minneapolis thing to my eyes. The Gold Medal Flour grain elevator (Mill City Museum) on the left confirmed my suspicion.

That is one interesting shot of Van. Somehow gives it an American feel.

That’s a pretty impressive collection of heavy industry! Apart from the steel mills in Hamilton, the really big industrial plants in the GTA are much more dispersed and kind of stand alone by themselves, sometimes within sight of very rich residential neighbourhoods.

There are giant industrial precincts here, but they’re mostly warehouses and light manufacturing.

Once I drove along a freeway in Houston that was lined with refineries for what seemed like 30 km.

That cloud pattern is somewhat common around this time of year. It creates really interesting lighting because as the sun sets is briefly drops below the cloud layer and illuminates it from the underside.

There should be a bigger market for 800 meter tall condos in Vancouver that get more sun in the winter.

One of my favourite skyline shots I've taken this winter...

Also, I've always imagined the U.S to have huge swaths of weapons manufacturing plants, and R&D research labs that we just don't see up here..Huge campuses and manufacturing facilities. Heck, even the high tech corridor in the west end of Ottawa was kind of cool the first time I drove through it a few decades ago. As well, Hamilton's steel mills were also interesting and mesmorizing when we drove by them the first time which was at night.

The signs of Montreal's heyday of industry are disappearing rapidly, but evidence can be seen near the old port, the Lachine Canal, and along highway 20 from Ville Emard through to Dorval. And of course, Chabanel.

More Skyline photos from my walk on St-Helens island on tuesday.

Un_Skyline_Branché_dans_February_Series_08 by Foofoo MacShoe, on Flickr

This one shows the development of the eastern part of the Skyline. There has long been a gap between the complex Desjardins and the CBC tower. It has been filling up slowly but steadily in the past 10 years. The crane is for the new Viger station tower. 20 floors.

A_New_Skyline_in_February_Series_09 by Foofoo MacShoe, on Flickr

This is also the first time I get to see the CHUM complex in its completion. I like its mass and height. It's a good addition to the overall skyline.

Great aerial shots of Bayview Station from last fall, with some solid skyline views from the area. So much vacant land ripe for redevelopment.

Just in case this serves someone for future reference, turning on "hardware acceleration" worked.
