Or am I doing something wrong?
When you're on Google Maps, you have to click on the planet near the lower, right to enable global view. The satellite view and the 3D option and compass should appear above the planet.

I've often felt that Hamilton was so rough around the edges, dingy and sketchy AF.. and while some of that still persists, the new projects sprouting up and new towers adding a little more "newness" to the fold is really helping the city shed some negative perceptions people have of the place.. There are some really pretty tree lined streets, with obvious signs of historic properties being diligently restored to their past glory, but then you turn the corner and it looks like a third world country.. but you can already tell how the new projects dotting the city's core will considerably improve the city's aesthetic and general vibe. Can't wait to drive down there again to see the progress.

...also, this is a really pretty pic I found on reddit.

Thing is, I used to see that, but I don't anymore. I didn't do anything to the link, it's been the same Google Maps link in my bookmarks for years, so I'm not sure what's going on.

Do you see the little planet at this link? https://www.google.com/maps

You'll have to switch to satellite view first for it to appear.

It doesn't appear in satellite view for me.

Weird. What browser are you using? And device (computer, smart phone, tablet. Windows or Apple product)?

Google Chrome on a MacBook Pro running Windows 10. What's weird is that the tilt function used to be there, but lately it hasn't. I didn't consciously do anything to Google Maps, it just seems to have changed on its own.

You might be stuck on Lite mode. Try accessing Maps from Google's main page drop down menu?

That or you might need to update Chrome.

It happens to me every now and then. Make sure in the chrome settings under ''system'' subcategory that ''Use hardware acceleration when available'' is enabled. If it doesn't work try different browsers and update your video card driver if it's not up to date.

I've got that turned off on purpose, but I forget why. It was the result of a spate of troubleshooting at one point. I'm a bit hesitant to turn it back on.

Random internet image. What presumably North American skyline is this? I can't tell.

That's Minneapolis. They're standing on a bridge over the Mississippi River.

the fact that I could recognize that it was Minneapolis, despite never having been there leads me to believe I spend way too much time on this forum looking at cities, when in fact I should be working. ...also, I'm doing this on company time.

I drove by that skyline about a dozen times when I was doing trips back and forth between Winnipeg and Hamilton. But I didn't recognize it from this angle.

For me it was the tall tower beside the guys head and the snow.

I was trying to find better images of these. I drive past these refineries last week on the 40. I rarely drive, I rarely drive on the 40 and I'm almost never on the eastern end of the island. I was amazed at how Edmontonian the Montreal-East industrial skyline is.
