The question is really:

To what extent are changes from the approved form of development allowed?

Argue the point with the city planners then, as it comes under pages 161 - 163 of the Cambie Corridor Plan.

I suspect that they'd face tougher opposition if it was standalone rather than under the Cambie Corridor plan.

It's been a known redevelopment opportunity for years. The Cambie Corridor Plan was the obvious mechanism to establish the scale that the redevelopment could achieve.

I wonder what the pace of development will be for Oakridge. It's a desirable area being on the west side, so we could see a similar build out speed as Southeast False Creek. In as little as 10 years there should be a substantial cluster of density, and a very noticeable skyline in "Midtown" Vancouver.

That seems like a bit of an incongruous development for that area.

If it was actually *on* Cambie I'd say fair game. But this looks like it's going to raze a block's worth of SFHs slap bang in the middle of a SFH neighbourhood. Is that whole area being upzoned or something? I didn't realise the blocks directly off Cambie were zoned for developments above ~4-5 floor lowrises.

The area around 41st and Cambie is planned to be a town centre like Metrotown

The sheer number of very specific color codes on that map makes my head hurt.

The Cambie MTC is modeled after the West End (mix of towers/low rise, ownership/rental/social). Most of those houses are no doubt sold already to developers. I wouldn't say this tower development is coming as a shock to anyone.

I wonder if it’s possible to build taller on Cambie than in downtown?

I don’t recall any viewcones being this far south.

Viewcones aren't the only thing that limits building heights. I guess the neighbourhood OCP, building economics and NIMBYs.

I think the placement of the tower is odd and not sure what options it will leave for the lot directly to the west.

There hasn't been any updates from Cambie Gardens but two towers are already almost 20 floors up there.

Just to the west of said dev. lot for sale is a 33-storey res tower sharing a lot with a 12-storey office tower.

I think the max I've seen here is 100 metres? I might be behind on a few updates.

Definitely inspired by Metrotown and trying to play catch up but rather late in the game.

Hopefully the only thing inspired from Metrotown is the "Town Centre" part. Probly won't happen, but you'd like to see Oakridge as a walk-able neighbourhood, with a good retail street at its heart instead of a mall.

Even with all that density, Metrotown is a lifeless neighbourhood.
