Correct. Humber Bay has really grown in the past few years and now Mimico will be doing the same, along with Mississauga's usual push to the sky.

Indeed Toronto is in a league of its own, but Vancouver presents a solid showing of multiple suburban skylines that could be mistaken for large, independent cities.

No other Canadian metropolitan area comes anywhere close to either of them.

There are certain views of Vancouver that show a sea of towers. In those shots it actually looks like a bigger city than Montreal. (Since our brains are conditioned to think: lotsa towers = bigger city.)

I love this characterization.

When it comes to this stuff, Canada (as in that photo) overwhelmingly comes across as sober and brooding, or moody as esquire said.

The US in comparison is what I would describe as "imperially fanciful".

I think it's the views shot from the water, looking east that does it for me. The shot that gets all of the Burnaby skylines in it.

And yeah, Toronto is a behemoth of city/skyline.

Canadian cities typically need to reach a certain size before one sees tall buildings proliferating. Usually when a city gets to 150,000+ it starts developing that way. Kamloops (116,896) and Nanaimo (117,144) will surely follow a similar path as the substantially more populous Kelowna (222,748). They're just not big enough to warrant it yet.

Saskatoon is another case in point. A city can't sprawl out endlessly. Saskatoon reached a size where it's still expanding outwards but it's also starting to grow vertically. It will happen in Regina, Lethbridge, and Red Deer too. They'll all reach a tipping point in the next 10-20 years. That's under the assumption that their population continues growing at a decent clip though.

Scott Street along the Transitway (O-Train by 2025) trench, with the Westboro tower cluster near the top left.

About 10 towers are proposed along the 2.5 kilometer trench between Tunney's and Kitchi Sibi (today Dominion) station, 6 of those within this shot.

Interesting Kamloops shots. This city has had little exposure on this thread, until recently.

I think it might be taken from the upper floors of the Massey Tower, which is located just north of Queen on Yonge.

The body of water in the middle background is the horseshoe-shaped Humber bay, which extends north to roughly meet where Queen street would be if it extended further west.

One Tour des Canadiens was fine, but two with the logo

That aside, amazing transformation around the Molson Centre over the past decade.

I just Googled the Massey Tower. It immediately reminded me of the Alt in Winnipeg for the heritage bank hall looking building at its base.

4 buildings have it actually in that photo. I mean, it is a bit much. Does any other professional sports team have their logo embezzled on such prominent buildings in North America? And on Condos now? How tacky!

yeah, not a fan of the Canadiens logo on those towers... one perhaps, but 4!! something about that many just makes it tacky. ...and I'm not just saying that because I'm a Flames fan either.
