They have to be. They're literally 60 feet below the level of Still Creek and the surrounding marsh land.

I had to check out the progress myself just before Christmas. As noted, it is a huge pit and how they are keeping the Skytrain running is really impressive.

The first photo is just for future reference on this project'simpact on Brentwood skyline.

Hopefully phase 2 starts shortly as per Onni's website:

Office Availability:

Phase 1 – approximately 80,000 SF office space
Phase 2 – approximately 680,000 SF office space
34 storeys with 20,000 SF floor plates
Approximate completion Q2 2024

It's slipped. "Approximate occupancy Q3 2025" And that was what they were saying over a year ago, so it's probably longer now, and will only be developed if they get a significant tenant, or tenants signed up for space.

Are there any confirmed or rumored retailers coming to Gilmore Place or is it still too early. I kinda view this large project like another The Amazing Brentwood development but if I remember correctly, TAB had some retailers named very early on before digging.

They have Cactus Club signage on their commercial leasing page so I'll take a wild guess and maybe a Cactus Club.

I think Gilmore Place will be more downmarket, more like Marine Gateway with things like Marshalls or Homesense, PetSmart, Shoppers Drug Mart etc.

Wouldn't be surprised if those go into Brentwood, absent a department store.

Burnaby is over retailed now, Brentwood has most of the stores that Metrotown already has albeit they seem like they will be flagships or bigger, the Sephora in Metrotown is really quite small, the new one at Brentwood is touted as a flagship and looks to be two levels, I imagine it will be as big as the one on Robson.

Gilmore Place will struggle to get retailers I think, there is only so much to go around. More of a big box mall than anything. I wouldn't expect things like Gucci there.

Greater Vancouver needs an upscale mall like Toronto, Melbourne etc all have in their suburbs.

I agree! Some of the retail on the opposite side of Lougheed to this project may move into here also as that land (North of Lougheed in Brentwood) gets redeveloped. Although the area also needs more affordable retailers too like say Buy Low, No frills, etc... so I can see this thing turning out to be like Kings Cross also!

Very impressive. The secant wall keeps the ground water out of the site. Surprised they never excavated the first building floor plate so that the crane can be set
They have a fair bit more material to pull out and then the ranking assembly will start. Also does anyone know if if piles are needed to support the load or to.prevent uplift.

Oh wow, so when I said before that they had reached the bottom - I was wrong. I can see they went another meter or two deeper.

Thanks.

That must just be for the garage and podium, as there are 2 towers along the Gilmore frontage, and that base seems dead centred.

It just so happens that I have some of the basement plans for this building.

These were preliminary drawings, but no crane base in that part of the garage.

You would happen to have the elevation drawings would you?
