My issue regarding naming bridges and other infrastructure is often, simply, why does it have to be named after anyone at all?
Who remembers who Duff Pattullo was? Some do, yes, most, not at all. Arthur Laing? .... Infrastructure seems often better named after the function it serves rather than a 'current' politician in charge. No disrespect to Arthur Laing, but 'Airport Bridge' may have been a better epithet. What function (linking traffic from where to where) does the new 'Pattullo' serve?
Perhaps a name centred on that might be better, such as simply (and succinctly) The New Westminster Bridge.
