Traeger Grills will Relocated Headquarters to Post District from Sugarhouse

I don't know if this was posted already but I think this is a great move by Traeger to relocated to the old Newspaper Agency Company (NAC) building, a historic, industrial building that served as the printing and distribution center for newspapers across the Intermountain West.

I know the CEO and he is the type of entrepreneur that SLC needs. Glad he decided to relocate downtown and not down south...

SALT LAKE CITY, Dec. 18, 2020 /PRNewswire/ -- Traeger Pellet Grills LLC announced today they will be building their new and expanded headquarters in Salt Lake City's Post District. Traeger will be housed in the old Newspaper Agency Company (NAC) building, a historic, industrial building that served as the printing and distribution center for newspapers across the Intermountain West.

"There's something invigorating about taking an original and innovating on it," said Jeremy Andrus, CEO of Traeger Wood Pellet Grills. "The opportunity to collaborate and breathe new life into the historic NAC building is so in line with Traeger's DNA, we couldn't help but jump in and be part of this new re-imagined space in downtown Salt Lake City."

Traeger will be located on the corner of 500 South and 400 West, and will be the northwest commercial anchor to Post Road and Post Plaza, a 52,000 square foot center area lined with restaurants, cafes and smaller local shops. Post Road will serve as the central hub of activity to both Traeger employees as well as residents and visitors to the district.

"We're excited to have such a high-quality company and brand be our lead anchor for this project," says Brandon Blaser at BCG Holdings, the managing partner for the Post District. "Traeger's story is all about re-imagining and innovation, which is completely in line with the Post District's vision."

"While Traeger's heritage is rooted strongly in the Pacific Northwest, Utah has been home since 2014 and its impact on our growth and culture cannot be overstated," said Cole VandenAkker, EVP of Sales at Traeger. "From our early days in Springville, to the last several years in Sugarhouse, we are proud to be called a Utah company and are eager to continue growing Traeger in the heart of Salt Lake City."

Construction on Traeger's new space will begin immediately and is expected to be completed in 2022. The over 95,000 square foot redevelopment will serve as Traeger's global headquarters. Along with their expected 500 employees office and R&D use, their space will include a retail showroom, a training and test kitchen, and a unique indoor/outdoor patio space that will be accessible from the new Post Road and Plaza area.

Post District is one of the first Opportunity Zone projects of this scale in the country to utilize the program to redevelop underserved communities. "This project does exactly what Opportunity Zones are intended to do," explains Blaser. "We are taking a blighted, vacant site, and redeveloping it in a responsible way to foster job growth, provide mixed-income housing and create new, vibrant spaces for the community."

About Post District
Post District is a redevelopment of over 13 acres that serve as the main gateway to downtown Salt Lake City. The site previously consisted of vacant, and dilapidated industrial buildings.

Post District will be a modern urban district providing a framework for mixed-use and responsible redevelopment. The project focuses on adaptive re-use of the historic buildings on-site integrated with new, mixed-use construction. At completion, Post District will feature 350-thousand square feet of creative office space, neighborhood retail and restaurants along with nearly 600 residential units. Post District is being developed through a joint venture between BCG Holdings, Lowe Property Group, Q Factor, and Bridge Investment Group.

We should make bets on what happens first, regarding the Carl’s Jr. on 200s & state.

A) It gets demolished.

B) Homeless people break in and burn it down.

Same bet for the old Diamond Lils building

How about option C:

Homeless somehow burn the billboard shortly before demolition of Carl's Jr takes place.

Sugar Alley

It appears that Sugar Alley has been under construction for a little while now. Isn't there anybody down there who passes by this place? Why is it that I'm getting these images faster than you locals?

Remembering SLC’s largest skyscraper that never was

https://www.ksl.com/article/40561000...that-never-was

Quote:
In 1981, Adnan Khashoggi, a Saudi Arabian billionaire businessman, announced plans for an office, retail and entertainment complex in a three-block section surrounding the historic Devereaux House in downtown Salt Lake City. By the time plans were finalized in 1982, the total price tag fluctuated from a little more than $400 million to $615 million throughout the years.

Quote:
The original plans called for twin 43-story buildings (that ended up getting trimmed to 35 stories within the next few years) and a 10-year construction schedule to complete all phases.
This would have been so cool, unfortunate money problems came along just as they broke ground.

I think it would have been cool perhaps had they been located somewhere else in the skyline, especially say along State or Main. Though I'm thinking we dodged a bullet because of their intended location, their color, and those flat designs of their westside skins. Seeing how the skyline is developing now, had those been built, from the western view we would have had two very disproportionately large bland ugly boxes overwhelming the skyline.

Then again, these shots would have looked much cooler as far as the skyline goes. Maybe the High-rises would have even reached to 300 West by now instead of just West Temple.

I just slapped together a quick map of all the development that will be happening on west north temple. I kind of wonder if anything will happen with the dirt parking lot across from the fair park. I would hope that they could at least pave it and make it look decent. I also wonder if the days are numbered for the trailer park in the area.

The Triad Center sits at a significantly lower elevation than most of the skyline so I don't know if it would have towered over everything as much as you would think.

A full buildout of the Triad Center would have completely changed how the west side of downtown developed. This is definitely one of my favorite projects that never happened.

Also, I have a few construction photos from yesterday:

On a related note. I think these are the next areas of north temple that are prime for redevelopment.

I like the proportions & the height on this building, but I've always felt that the exterior design needs editing. For example, why is the mid-rise portion expressed with the same exterior glassy curtain wall as the main tower? Or shouldn't the base of the mid-rise also be distinguished with some contrast from the main slender tower? Also, the little cutouts on the main tower, why? And, why does the top portion of the tower turn down and terminate to the glass curtain wall? It seems like something should follow all the way down to the podium or terminate a little better or turn down with a different material that is separate from the lighter material or don't turn down at all.

I am really excited for this one. I personally think this will be the premier tower in the city once built. The theater tower also looks very attractive. Both will truly add to the ambiance of downtown. It is exciting to see the city reaching critical mass for growth. I never thought it would happen.

If we had another baseball team to use it I suppose. Seems like I heard somewhere that there actually used to be a baseball field there.

Is Carl’s Jr. the only thing being demolished for this? I wasn’t sure if they were also going to tear down the pawn shop and that cigarette store.

Future Mayor, There are so many new projects coming on line I can't keep track anymore if this is prep for an already announced project or something completely new. Is this something that already has a name and developer attached to it? Someone refresh my memory if I'm forgetting something.

Word is that the SE corner will be a couple of things, one is an interior food truck area as well as a portion of the parcel will be a substantial amount of apartments. The parcel extends all the way from 700-800 S and from 600 W to Woodbine St (halfway between 600 and 500 W).

That is all the information that my contact knows currently, what he has received from the developer and the City.

Atlas was saying over on The Comp. Thread that Dakota Pacific's new plans have been expanded to include a small lot between the Kensington and the Regent Mixed-Use Project. Not sure if Kensington is demoing any of those small shops on State. Probably someone on here would know about that.

Really appreciate the many updated photo plugs that some of you guys like RC14 and Gastroc have been taking lately. If any of you guys have a chance in your passing give us some shots of some of the TAG projects, Maven West, The Beverly, The Hardison, The Olive, and of course Marmalade. Some of those like the Beverly should be finishing up at this point.

Hardison appeared completely framed and openings cut but no outside finish this fall. It has since been upholstered in white plastic ( no doubt there is a technical term for this). Work presumably going on out of signt.
