Sorry to hear that...

On the Confederation, the contactor put in a lot of work over the summer to improve reliability. Problematic switch heaters are being upgraded from electric to gas. Even now, there are still some issues. On the first significant snowfall two weeks ago, a train derailed near the maintenance yard and a second experienced break issues at uOttawa. No word if the snowfall contributed or if it was just a coincidence.

Things seem to be getting better, but we won't know or sure until we see more snow, and when ridership goes back to near normal levels.

We can empathize with your situation, but you seem to be in a worse position with the Metro Line considering how long this has been going on.

The Metro Line is so slow. Other than those who are already on the train from south of the river, the #9 which runs at the same if not better frequency seems like a better choice.

I do hope they fix this before expanding to Blatchford and beyond.

The Valley Line will be just as slow as the Metro Line is now. A bus on rails, essentially. Can't wait for that boondoggle to open. LeSigh

I acknowledge that problems like this aren't just isolated to Edmonton, but there seems to be nobody taking charge and cracking a few skulls in Edmonton. Honestly, it feels like the city has gone so far outside its lane that it's almost in the ditch. I guess virtue signalling is more important these days.

It's like the city admin acts like an absentee landlord. Does ANYONE senior in the city admin give a rat's —?

You don’t know that. There maybe problems but they won’t be the same. The signaling system is completely different.

Actually time and time again, its been pointed out that the travel time route 15 takes is the same time the lrt is proposed to take from mwtc to downtown

But hey, keep saying its not...

Yea and glenco, you dont know either.

The city hasnt had the best track record on successful lrt projects. Everything since uofa station has been a — show. And they still have issues on 111 street 15+ years later.

Yee of blind faith needs a dose of reality

This is fine is how we got nait lrt and the massive mistake that has been, and it stems right from poor planning followed by the signaling issue.

If this issue with the signalling on the NAIT line isn't fixed by the time NAIT and other schools in this part of the city start getting back to normal after the pandemic - uh-oh. That is not going to be good.

The south extension a '— show'....how so? The only thing they missed the mark on was having to extend the platforms to accommodate 5-car trains due to high demand...that was short-sighted.

That is very insightful of you. I never said it would be without problems infrastructure projects of this magnitude almost always do just check crossrail in London or Ottawa’s new railway.
If speed were the only criteria for judging the success of the valley line then you may have a point but it is not. Capacity and neighborhood infill are more important at this stage than high speed commuter train out to the far flung burbs.

Far flung suburbs ? Avonmore is far flung suburbs? Millwoods is far flung suburbs?

Maybe when you limited POV is just downtown Edmonton

Capacity and neighbourhood?

It sounds like your more interested in aesthetics than function.

Frequent delays, signalling issue, the havoc it has caused at university. The fact that the design limits extensions,

Have you been living under a rock since 2006?

Frequent delays...niet. Signalling issue, wrong line bud. Havoc at University, way f*ckin' overblown. I used to ride the south line for years from Century to Corona/Central and other than the odd issue here and there which is what all systems face it was fine. I also used to drive on University from Saskatchewan Drive to 114 Street and again, other than some delays during peak periods it was fine. 'Should' have it been grade separated, yes. But is it a complete failure as you seem to be alluding, sorry but I disagree. Fact off.

wtf??? if anyone here lives under a rock only to surface for the occasional drive-by character assassination you could probably find him by looking in a mirror.

Was in Monterrey MX (6 million metro) for the 5 nights last week get out of dodge. Of course used apps for shared rides but we also took the "Metrorrey" on the 2 running lines L1 L2 end to end. Their trains and tracks are VERY similar to Edmontons LRT but better planned. Underground stops exist in Monterrey centro then both lines go up onto raised track for all stops. At some stops they also connect to an express bus (metro bus) with dedicated bus lanes running out. The Line 3 for Monterrey metro area is complete but ... the Government (all) say no money to buy the cars to run - so the web says. The Metro website informs you to download and use "Moovit" app and it did work great - but I know that from using it in other cities.
