Additionally, WS jumped right into taking advantage of the pilot program without haste even having a seat sale from Alberta (that ends today) and includes destinations they don't currently fly to like HNL, OGG, MCO, LAS, MZT, HUX all effective in December. I'm sure their working on clearing the remaining barriers to resume flying to Hawaii.

AC's pilot at YYZ is you can get tested upon arrival from an international destination, but it doesn't get you out of the 14 day quarantine regardless of your test result.

This one is being run by the Alberta / federal government and if you test negative, you can leave isolation (in as little as 2 days) as long as you commit to getting a second test 6-7 days after you return.

If the trial runs successful at YYC, it will likely be expanded to other airports. Looks like YEG will be next. I'm sure other provinces will jump into joint programs at their airports too.

It’s unclear to me, in reading the details about the YYC trial, if arriving passengers can continue on their journey to their final Alberta destination (eg: LAX-YYC-YQL) immediately after taking the test and wait out the two days and have their second test done there?

Yup, as long as you stay within Alberta, it's fine. You'd need to quarantine 2 days in YQL to get your initial result and then subsequent test 6 days later.

All of the US carriers that serve YYC (except for AA) have already updated their December schedules, so the earliest we will see AS resume is in January. Perhaps WS is working behind the scenes to get those approvals in place. Not sure I would make a booking for now...

On another note, WS is making an announcement tomorrow morning likely about its flagship lounge. Should be interested to see what they unveil.

WS unveiled it's new lounge "Elevation" opening in Concourse B on November 2!

Beginning tomorrow KLM will start operating AMS-YYC-YEG. KL679 will arrive and everyone will clear customs. YEG bound passengers will re-board the plane in the domestic terminal. YYC pax bound for AMS will board the same aircraft from the international side. This routing runs 2x weekly (Thu / Sat) and we still have 3x weekly non-stop roundtrips bringing the total presence to 5x weekly.

Looks like they will use gate 72/73 for this.

WS added a ton of extra flights to sun destinations for this week and next, possibly hinting at what's in store for December.

PHX - Will operate up to 8x weekly until November 12.
PSP - Extra flights added November 6/9th
PVR - 3 flights on Saturdays now, up to 4x weekly total service

Air Canada has added back some additional Sun Destinations in December:

PHX - 2x weekly
OGG - 1x weekly (On a 789, matching what WS is planning)
CUN - 2x weekly
PVR - 2x weekly
IAH - 1x daily

Interestingly FRA/LHR still survived this schedule update, but I suspect they'll get yanked in an upcoming one.

AA also updated it's December schedule, and it still shows they plan to resume PHX. However, so did they initial November schedule so we'll see if it actually happens.

UA has DEN going up to 2x daily from mid-December (for now).

As expected AC has adjusted its schedules again. Honestly, right now I wouldn’t count on anything even just 3-4 weeks in advance.

Yup. I also have limited confidence on if they’ll even fly PHX and OGG in December too. I guess we’ll see in the coming weeks.

On another note, WS filed its December schedule update in OAG and looks like they’re planning to resume 6 routes to LAS, MCO, HNL, OGG, MZT and HUX. All resuming around the middle of the month.

Hawaii appears to be once weekly all on the 789. LAS is the same schedule they attempted back in the summer. The others are all once weekly in Saturday’s.

Also looks like PHX and PVR are up to daily around Christmas.

Land borders are still closed - but you can still fly across the border.

Restrictions have only applied at the land & marine border. Canadians have always been able to fly to the US without issue. Southbound loads have been good.

Honestly the only real surprise is MCO. All the others I expected.

WS is also betting on funneling all of their traffic thru YYC, which is smart in circumstances like this. When demand is light, but there's still some there so you don't want to axe anything, you do a once or twice weekly flight and get the whole network to connect on it. Even with low demand, you can still make it work. That's the thing with a lot of these routes; the list seems long, but in fact so many routes are so limited frequency that it doesn't add up to a lot.

Land borders are closed to tourism and other casual travel only. Canadians can still return to Canada with an isolation plan in place. Trucks are crossing normally. There are also now waivers for people in relationships/ close family who are not Canadians.

The border has always been far from closed.

AC has added YYC-PHX/YVR to it's all J class Jetz schedule in December, mostly on Saturdays starting the 19th.

This is a good sign that they intend to actually fly this route next month, but I'm not 100% confident in that.

Delta played hardball against the Trump Administration's efforts to place protectionist barriers on Airbus and Bombardier sales in the US. So I suspect they did not get a friendly hearing from DOT.
Reading the conditions, they certainly seem onerous and difficult to justify, especially given the current state of the industry.

Will be interesting to see if they try again with the Biden Administration.

Do different administrations change the DOT rulings significantly?
