This is an expensive change order.

When was the last time the core was raised? are they still raising it without the steel/hollowcore? It seems quite extruded

I am not an engineer, my background is in IT, but isn't it a real concern that "the steel contractor has been very busy welding huge pieces of reinforcing steel onto at least 2/3 of the supporting columns on each floor".

That seems to imply that there is a real issue with the design or construction and it reflects on the integrity and safety of the building

I'm not really sure what was meant by welding reinforcing onto the beams. Are they just adding gussets? Or are they adding cross bracing or new beams? It's hard to imagine exactly what is going on, and I'm sure the costs vary a great deal depending on what's happening. As long as they keep construction going I don't really care, I guess. The financial details aren't any of my business.

It does not. They have decided to hang the 15th floor because the entire panel set was already staged on the 15th floor at the time of the tremor, so by their logic it should be safe to hang them up. No further glazing or anything else has yet been greenlit.

What could be causing this? Is it possible that the original piles never went right down to the bedrock? I'm certainly not an engineer but is this something you could properly determine 40 years after original construction?

^ I guess I can't say anything too unpleasant about them since they brought us the Winnipeg ICE, but it is a little lame that Winnipeg has such prominent downtown buildings owned by what basically amount to mom and pop operations that don't really have any particular use or vision for them. See also: Dayton Building, Boyd Building, National Trust Building.

Boom is off again, looks like they will be raising the core only a couple more times before the crane will need to be raised again.

Did the site catch fire today about 16:45? I saw from the break room of my company a number of fire trucks at Main and Graham. The PulsePoint fire app noted a structure fire at that location and the duration of the fire call was about 30 minutes.

I wonder if it was sparks from one of the trades that ignited some tarps or insulation bundles?

For sure most of the fire call was the poor firefighters going up and down the stairwells to get to the fire floor as I don't think the FD would use the construction elevator to get to there.

Any chance of floors being lopped off if they are having to add more steel (more weight) to the structure?
