Oh god. No.

I actually like the aesthetic of the building, as a tower, but once you stretch it all the way down the block...

Yes please! That strip of Bloor West desperately needs something like this and it's miles more suitable than that disaster across the street. Putting town houses that close to the street and right next to a rail overpass was a big mistake. You need scale next to a rail overpass and you also need wide sidewalks. This does both and the architecture is nice. And it needs to stretch south down the block like that. If people understood the site they'd be more receptive.

The Bloor GO station is just down the street where major intensification is planned. To the south of this lot is Sterling Avenue, home to a few warehouse buildings and the Museum of Contemporary Art. Stretching south towards that makes sense.

Agree. The only alternative I can see is a car garage entrance on the east side of the building between this and that pre-existing 6 floor condo building.

I have to say that the developer is just completing a 7 floor building with wavy balconies and curved glass and the execution is excellent, so there is hope on that front.

West Don Lands: Block 20 - 163m - 45s - Dream - Henning Larsen - (approved at 165m?)

Appears to be just approved today by provincial zoning order @ up to 165 metres (incl. mechanical). A great addition to the Distillery District in any case.

Coronation Park in Port Moody (Metro Vancouver):

For some more context this is right near the Inlet Centre Station on the "new" Millennium extension. It's also right near the eastern border of Coquitlam of which there are lots of other towers being proposed in as well.

That's just terrible. I am hopeful something good can be made out of it. Lamb always goes extreme; complains the world is against him; settles on something a little more appropriate. My only concern is that height becomes the focus (too tall) and not everything else that is wrong here.

It is a huge version of the Slough building used in the opening credits of The Office (UK), which symbolized mediocrity and despair.

They are nice towers. It just seems Toronto is incapable of building or intensifying a neighbourhood without 40 plus storeys towers in it. The Spirit condos were a special circumstance as they were applied to the entire Distillery District. Remember the original plan was to build over top/ facadize every heritage industrial building in the district. Higher building heights along the rail corridor were always part of the West Donlands plan but, I don't think that was meant as a line of 120 metre towers. They are out of the way on the edge of the community. They are also on the southern edge of a community in the northern hemisphere.

A couple of just quiet, in limbo or dead with no funeral...

8 Elm - 67 storeys - IBI - re-zoning approved (?)

The city dropped its opposition to this proposal with (among other things) the submission of a revised built-form (below), but I’m not of aware of any project news since July 2019.

UT

415 Yonge - 61 storeys - Marwest - Kirkor - limbo (?)

This is the wacky 42 storey addition on top of an existing 19 storey building which was recommended for refusal in 2019 (with a few hundred planning objections). Haven't heard anything since or whether the proponent challenged the city at LPAT.

UT

The Manderley Condominiums - 34m - 12s - Nova Ridge - IBI Group - site demolition permit approved

Located on Kingston Road in Scarborough

The Ontario Line will run right under them so it actually makes sense. Hopefully they will stick with more mid and low rise on the Portland's which I think they need to due to the airport.

^^^ to Whippers comment.

Thanks The Ontario Line explains a lot.

I'm for densities rising as you move closer to high order transit. I'm in the extreme minority in throwing out out nearly every planning principle to stack as many units as possible around stations overcompensating for Toronto's inferior transit system. Urbantoronto is obsessed with this. I don't know how many times I have read a post over a dense high rise project far from any substantial employment needing to be twice as tall because there happens to be a transit station nearby.

This towers at this location aren't comparably bad by any means. It's central and mixed use. However, the heights are out of context for the rest of the neighbourhood and the line of heights will cast shadows across the entire neighbourhood.

What's happening around Crosstown is very disappointing. Tall towers with the urban setting of VCC. I'm optimistic for Toronto. The Avenue plan along streetcar lines is really coming into its own. The amount of pedestrian scaled development planned and under construction is up ten fold from 5 years ago. I only hope that replacement retail retains some of the character of the stores being replaced. Most of what is being built and planned is filling holes in the streetscape and not replacing anything worthwhile. Those properties will run out fast at this pace.

I'm not going to comment on the last one as the conversation never goes well. Thanks for posting that it was recently submitted though.

Where I last worked, we did business with KingSett and our CIO sat on their board. I received their quarterly portfolio reports and occasionally saw the details of future plans and what not. I also interviewed there twice, once for a huge step up in my career that I just fell short of.

Their old office I visited for those two interviews. Have not been to their new office at Scotia Plaza though. Everyone from the admin staff to execs had suit and tie on. I thought that would be cool if I could get the job and I'd be pimped out everyday heading into the office. But since then, I realize I really don't like just how formal everyone and everything is there.

And I realized that I didn't really like a lot of their plans that were so office heavy. They have different funds, and some are more aggressive than others of course. They put a lot into the Calgary market a few years ago too. I like a variety of asset classes. You know, office, multi, retail, industrial, then a little bit of specialized use like hotel/resort, agriculture, entertainment, etc.

Even though I really don't mind the proposal too much, it just feels unnecessary to me. Some of it could be personal though because I find KingSett so uptight!

We have a small partnership with them at my current workplace too.
