Oof. It's one thing to drop a candidate in a losing riding or when you're ahead, but dropping a candidate in a toss-up liberal leaning riding when already behind reeks of the BC Libs just trying to minimize seat losses. Very real chance that the NDP manages to start winning in the Fraser Valley again on this.

Yet another indictment of Wilkinson's terrible leadership. Throness has been a pain in the neck for years but only now does Wilkinson do something? To borrow a phrase from his major opponent, "Come on, man."

Saying the best child care was a woman in the kitchen? Not disciplined.

Openly defying your leader and continuing to advertise in a publication that has run anti-gay editorial content? Not disciplined.

Defending conversion therapy, which is actively harmful to LGBTQ+ folks? Again, not disciplined.

Comparing birth control to eugenics? Oh, that's just too much.

This may be one of the worst campaigns I've ever seen run by a party, if not the worst. Just total complete disarray. At this point the Liberals are just going to have switch tactics and try to save the silverware. Chilliwack-Kent will be much closer now that Throness doesn't have party support but that's not always a guarantee. If he's popular enough he could still win the seat, depends on how hard the NDP push over the next 10 days. Remember, a lot of people have already voted.

Interesting comment from Keith Baldrey tonight:

"There is a whiff of the 1991 BC election hovering over the current campaign: one party watching wheels falling off the bus at a regular clip, a third party getting a bounce from the leaders' debate.... #bcpoli"

The Liberal Free Enterprise coalition is collapsing in front of our eyes, I think the BC Cons will win seats in 2024. This is likely the end of the Free enterprise coalition.

Or most of the people in the Fraser Valley associate with that kind of thing

Hard to swallow those ideological differences when you don't have unlimited campaign financing at your disposal. The end of the Wild West of Cash is probably the big reason the Liberal wing of the party suddenly feels like they're wearing a hairshirt.

The NDP pushing to the center and capturing that Federal Liberal vibe is the smartest thing they've done in about 50 years.

Now who bets they will ruin it? That's something they are much more familiar with.

Very much this.

I really hope they hold it together if they are indeed gifted a majority.

I want the NDP that's campaigning to win, not the NDP that many us still think is lurking in the shadows.

It's funny that many on here seem to be going through the same thing as me. I didn't want to admit it, but I am one of those people that now looks at the Liberals and gets anxious, not just because of some of their candidates but the lack of leadership. I don't feel connected to it anymore the same way as before. The NDP's big clincher is that they didn't decimate the economy, and still managed to beef up services. That's a pretty good way to win, since you pull people from both spectrums. God I can't believe I'm saying that, but at this moment, they seem more qualified to govern

Same page.

BCLiberals need a complete rebuild, not just a rebrand. We need fresh faces, better ideas, much better social inclusivity, while maintaining the free enterprise edge and pro growth policies.

All that being said - if NDP wins a majority lets see how they act with power in their hands over the next 4 years.

It took me about 2-3 business days to get. However this was just after the election was called. I've already filled mine out and submitted it.

They had me. I thought the Liberals would run a clear and concise campaign and capitalize off the annoyance of the snap election. All they had to do was to appeal to the the average voter by pushing stimulus packages, removal of ICBC and infrastructure improvements across BC (ie. Hwy #1 in Fraser Valley, Massey Bridge)

Then it happened...the same cast of Liberal Candidates started opening their mouths and it's totally become an absolute gongshow. How difficult is it to keep your — opinions to yourself and avoid posting anything controversial? Seriously. Liberals need to clean house. You cannot have religious nuts and old-school idiots in the party anymore. This may have worked 20+ years ago prior to the WOKE culture but you pretty much have to pick your battles and focus on issues that people actually care about.

The best outcome is the NDP win in an absolute landslide. Prove their competency over the next 4 years and force every party to reform and hold themselves to the highest standards.

The BC Liberals watched (or didn't) the 2019 Federal Election, and went with the same playbook as the CPC.

At this point, they ARE the CPC. The Libs' best hope is for all the social conservatives and SoCreds to jump ship to the BC Cons; then they can rebuild themselves as a centre-right libertarian party.

The provincial Liberals have always been a CPC / SoCred party.

They are aka the NPA / CPC / So Cred. They in no way are even closely related to the Federal Liberals.

They were created as a name change from the old SoCred party. To make people believe they are a new party.

The NDP have indeed governed fairly pragmatically, it is a shame we are losing Carole James as Finance Minister to Parkinsons.

Not that its directly translateable, but Jacinda Ardern's centre-left Labour Party just won a landslide re-election in New Zealand in a pandemic election.

Says who? The party is literally a coalition of federal Liberals and Conservatives that exists only to try to keep the NDP out of power. If you're going to criticize the party for having wacky bigots in it, you should be prepared to heap as much scorn on the complicit moderates and centrists in the party that didn't seem to have a problem sharing a tent with them for so many years as long as they were winning elections.

How do you explain that the last four party leaders in a row were federal Liberals? How do you explain the party existing prior to the collapse of the Socreds? (Also, the NPA is full of federal Liberals and Conservatives, which is why they're considered the BC Liberal farm team.)

To be fair, I'm sure some of us are also ride-or-die for our losing team. It's just that for most people it's the Canucks, not a political party!

Off-topic, but did anybody else not get their mail-in ballot yet?
