What I find really odd is that YYC sees the least 787 flights in November of the three hubs. Unless I’m wrong (which happens surprisingly often), YYZ has 14 a week (7 to YVR, 5 to YYC and 2 to LGW), YVR has 7 (YYZ) and YYC has 5 (YYZ).

It'll actually only be 3x weekly planned 789 service YYC. However overall I believe WS will still have a higher presence at YYC.

On another note, WS resumes flying to PHX and PSP today.

Flight loads appear to be okay.
PHX: W - 100% / Y - 85 %
PSP: W - 70% / Y - 60%

Wow, AC still aren't flying to Regina and Saskatoon?!

I think US Sun trunk routes will do ok over the winter - there is a lot of Alberta investment in PHX and I don't see all of that disappearing for the whole season. Once it gets cold enough for long enough people will start missing the sun. Probably less going out to restaurants etc. but nothing risky about golfing or being at your own/a rental property.

AC to both LHR and FRA seems optimistic - though I do think FRA a few times weekly could work. If KLM can do it AC/LH should be able to get some sort of loads through the FRA mega-hub.

I don't see the 14 day quarantine on return disappearing anytime soon. My guess would be late spring/early summer 2021.

Any word on WestJet and/or Air Canada resuming flights to HNL and OGG? I imagine there would be a fair amount of demand there given the loads going to PSP and PHX - or are they waiting for the 14-day quarantine to end/the pre-testing program to include Canadian labs?

AC has OGG and HNL scheduled from YVR in December currently. Not sure about WS as they have only been updating their schedule month to month.

I didn’t realize that that particular test wasn’t available in Canada? I thought that was just the standard test no matter which country it was in!

The test is the same, but they’re currently only accepting it from their approved partners to bypass quarantine. They claim that the Hawaiian Tourism authority is working on approvals for tests from provincial labs - assuming you could even get tested and get results to provide proof in Alberta in less than 72 hours.

Indeed. I got a voluntary asymptomatic test done in mid September on a Wednesday right before they changed the rules on who could get one done here, and it took till Monday for my results to be returned.

I got results back in less then 48 hours, but this was back in July when they were testing less people.

Speaking of testing, a couple of the aviation unions have set up a website advocating for testing on arrival to replace quarantines. There's a form that allows people to quickly and easily submit a letter to their MPs. For those who'd like to see YYC boost its international traffic figures again, take a few minutes and send a letter!

WS resumed Mexico flying today from YYC to CUN, PVR x2, and SJD. All 4 southbound flights had good loads. North bounds are pretty empty, but that's fairly normal for the first flights of the season.

How are the covid case numbers in Mexico? Are hotels/restaurants/etc operating as per normal?

All three of those Mexico cities have mostly re-opened and operating normally. Most have mandatory mask laws in public places, and Cancun is apparently issuing fines for non-compliance.

I'm curious if we could even see more destinations back this winter too like MZT, HUX, ZIH, etc.

As for COVID, Mexico appears to get about 5,000 new cases per day (total so far is 809,751). They have a pretty high death rate at 10% (83,507 total).

Considering YEG-MZT launches this month on Swoop I'm sure WestJet will resume it as well from YYC.

AA YYC-PHX
AS YYC-SEA
and AA YYC-DFW drops to once daily only

DL down to 2x weekly as well.
WestJet hasn't updated its November schedule yet either, but I believe they'll carry over LAX / PHX & PSP. LGW is being cut apparently.

AA will probably not resume PHX at all.

One positive is that the YYC terminal expansion opened 2? years ago should serve the needs for many many years to come.
