Please do some reading here to understand how copyright works. Long story short, you don't get to make up your own copyright rules and declare an image to be in the public domain just because it doesn't say "copyright" on it.

By your insistence that you don't need to follow the rules because the images came from emails and not the website. Again... direct any further inquiries to the moderator because I have nothing more to say here.

It's starting to look very suspicious that he's being so evasive. To properly cite the info we need to know who's creating it. SSP states

When posting images in the forum which are not your own you are required to provide credit to the originating website of each image.

To properly credit an image please include, above or below the image, the name of the photographer or creator of the image, plus the URL to the webpage the image originates from.

Sadly, we know none of this info. The emails sent out every week only link to the marketing campaign site which is clearly not the source of the info. We also don't know who's creating these updates despite having asked at least twice for the info. Must be a state secret.

The APA guidelines for citing material include the following advice:
  • Cite primary sources when possible, and cite secondary sources sparingly.
  • Cite sources to document all facts and figures that you mention that are not common knowledge.
  • To cite a specific part of a source, provide an author–date citation for the work plus information about the specific part.

Source: https://apastyle.apa.org/style-grammar-guidelines/citations/basic-principles

The first two points are something Mykie needs to address in the updates as he and/or his team are not doing them. We at least have dates but no author info. I find it very odd that he won't even indicate the organization behind these updates. I doubt it's the province as they copyright everything they do. I get a similar weekly email update from another government department that makes it very clear who's producing the content, etc. I could see this being a contractor(s) based on what we get from KGL including the attitude.

You're confusing yourself. We're talking about how to properly cite and reference material. You keep avoiding providing us that information by going off on tangents. I also suggest you do some reading on copyright and fair use.

More avoidance. What are you hiding, Mykie? I'm asking you to provide basic information that has nothing to do with the moderators here. They don't the answers so no, I'm not going to direct my inquiries to them.

Which is perhaps why the only request was for a link. A simple link. I understand you want to write lectures about APA citation styles which you're welcome to do, but I haven't asked you to provide information that you don't have so it's interesting that you want to turn this into a school paper.

I also understand that you want me to research more into copyright, I think what's clear in copyright law is that the absence of copyright information is not exemption from copyright which is the only thing relevant to this discussion.

Now you're off on another tangent. You're not the one asking for information--we are. You came here practically demanding that we give you and your team credit but you refuse to let us know who we're supposed to give credit to. We've made it perfectly clear that the website has been acknowledged, that we have no interest in claiming credit nor profiting from the content, and I even deleted all of the posts. What is it that you want? For all we know you could be trolling us. You've provided no evidence that you're associated with the work. I just find all of this extremely strange--even for SSP. We're talking about a construction project not Area 51. Why are you so reluctant to tell us who's behind the content and website? And forget about the copyright stuff. It's a nonissue in this case.

So with the new section opened I assume that means the province met their end of the deal in regards to building the section in Tsuut'ina territory before a certain date (2021?), with no chance of having to hand the land back?

You receive those email updates (from [email protected]) because you signed up for updates from www.westringroad.ca, a site that is hosted by The Government of Alberta, and whose content is copyrighted per the footer of their page. The construction updates you, myself, and others receive are the exact same as the updates posted on the www.westringroad.ca website

The amount of effort being put in to NOT provide credit is astounding. Would it be so hard just to put a "From Month/Day/Year update email from West Ring Road newsletter (also sourced @ www.westringroad.ca)" or the like before you share the info? Trying to determine the photographer(s) and people who compiled the newsletter/website is getting into the weeds and is unnecessary here.

I never said anything about copyright, I leave that to the moderators.

I am asking you a simple question. You claim to represent an unnamed “team”. Who is this team and what is your official role within this team?

Mykie's the one demanding the forum rules be followed so I'm just saying if that's what he wants then he needs to give us the info so we can comply. Also, until rather recently, the email newsletter info was never posted at www.westringroad.ca and even now it only goes back a month. If he's so concerned about proper attribution, etc. then he should look into getting a DOI for each of the newsletters so we can link to that and so that people can find it at later times. The way it's setup now is a textbook case of how not to publish content that is meant for public consumption. I and I'm sure others initially told everyone about the newsletter. The source of the content was made very clear.

Wow. You guys removed my post - which provided a link to a youtube video I made, while arguing about copyright. Special.

Tsuut'ina Trail - Calgary SW Ring Road
Video Link

This video is my property, as if it wasn't obvious that it was posted on my youtube "korzym" channel. I see some things haven't changed around here.

I hope we get some good aerial shots of the 201/Glenmore/Sarcee/etc. interchange complex. Or did they only have enough budget to do the south end of what just opened up? lol
