I grew up in Mississauga and my mom is still there, so I'm there quite a bit. I'd take any building in the Mississauga city centre over what we have right now in Ottawa. I wouldn't classify the buildings as ugly and I don't know what would make you think there was no planning. They've had a few planning documents over the years. A lot more exciting and visionary than any plans or visions I've seen for Ottawa.

I did a quick Google Street View along the streets of Mississauga and I have to agree, a lot of the new buildings have better street interaction than Ottawa, and are better/nicer/taller in general. Yes, the street grid is still very suburban and the area has a lot of surface lots, but we can see the improvement.

It's embarrassing to see decent architecture in a Toronto suburb while Ottawa is still building mediocre designs (or in the case of Icon, great design but poor quality materials).

We're getting off topic, but this is another interesting development called M City in Mississauga:

Bro lives in 'sauga. Am from Scarborough originally. So I am back often enough. I still think Mississauga is pretty suburban. I will agree that they are doing a much better job that Ottawa.

Exactly. Hurontario isn't quite Sheikh Zayed Rd in Dubai. But it's terrible for the urban form.

Not sure what I make of it. But I haven't seen it in person yet. Just these image files.

Taken today near where the Carling Building used to be. I really don't want the hospital to be built here. I went for a nice walk through this part of the farm and it was really nice. It'd be a shame for this and Juliana Park to be torn up for a hospital and its parking.

This angle right here is my favourite. Ignoring the crown and "Claridge" sign, the cheapness of the thing is not as visible.

If only we could ignore the claridge hospital green glazing in the middle there, this elevation would have been pretty sweet with those nice-looking, otherwise unuseable balconies.

The north side would have looked so much better if they had used glass instead of the grey panels in that middle section.

Sorry, I'm just referring to the extreme taper. By all means, step out onto the balcony and scoot around your table and chairs.

Edit: you're right, it's fine.

I was going to say that these balconies are pretty damn big. I think you were thinking of the tribeca ones which are small for sure
