This shortened atrocity will be in front of the Hotel Mac, one of our signature historic buildings in the city. They should just keep it as a park. This building is another sure sign that Edmonton will continue to rape its own heritage.

I don’t see anything wrong with this design, just not for that lot. It kind of seems similar to CNIB. Something like this on west jasper ave or sask drive would be great. Looking back at the past designs for the Mac site, the only one that seemed worthy of the location was the rounded twisting one. Possibly one of the first renderings that came out? But that one didn’t seem realistic. I think no matter what we’re going to be disappointed by what’s built here...

My opinion.... Don't even build it. Its a Prime Space. Leave it as is or build to be spectacular.

Phew.

I wish we had more non-balcony buildings to be honest.

Most go unused and often become detrimental to the building in terms of water penetration, heating/heat transfer and pigeon issues.

There’s balconies up the entire north side...

The round building cold posted is still my favourite even though it’s completely unrealistic lol

The more I look the more disappointing this new version is. The "podium" floors along the west side are no longer set back creating a very narrow "plaza" if you could even call it that.
Too bad that second version couldn't go, it would have really stood up over time imo, which a building should strive to do being next to the Mac.

Yeah, not sure either. I think this has the opportunity to turn out better than what many seem to be assuming.

Awesome to see some new investment on the Ave. The more, the merrier.

Also, this development was incentivized by the City's Storefront Improvement Program, which has helped redevelop many other disused commercial sites.

That’s cool - hopefully a nice & functional inside will take some pressure off the outside. I’ll definitely be checking it out.
I find some of the newer epls to be lacking in quiet study/reading space but I guess that’s a bit of a shift or what libraries are...
I mean, Lois hole and jp library are borderline daycares/blockbusters and I remember the Milner as a bit of a homeless shelter and don’t really expect that to change given how inclusive public spaces are expected to be.
