That's called very good planning - the O-Train is actually unlocking the door to a very bright Ottawa Gatineau future where it becomes a true international destination because it really needed a proper rail transportation network. This airport line is the first real sign that Ottawa wants in!

The two transfer option though needs to be rethought. How many passing track would be needed to get 12 minute headway for both a Bayview to Limebank and Bayview to Airport line? Doubling the tunnel at Dow's Lake? A passing track at Preston? A passing track north of Mooney's Bay?

The tunnel at Mooney's Bay is the only issue and again, Elon Musk's Boring Company would be able to find a cheap solution to that problem

I haven't seen how The Boring Company digs tunnels bigger than the standard size? Maybe for bigger sized tunnels it has two goes at it? the Stadler FLIRT trains are very big.

There is no tunnel at Mooney's Bay. Heron road passes over the tracks on a bridge, albeit one that is much wider than it is long.

The Boring Company operates a used Tunnel Boring Machine wrapped up in a lot of hype. They haven't fundamentally changed anything about construction other than having a leader who is active on Twitter. Don't expect them to magically cut tunneling costs by 75%.

From what I have heard, there are two main differences:
  1. They converted the boring machine to be electric. This not only is cheaper to run, but it greatly reduces the ventilation needs during boring.
  2. They mix the cement they need onsite using material extracted by the boring machine instead trucking away the waste to a landfill and then trucking in premixed cement.
I do agree that the cost savings are likely over-hyped as they wouldn't be including station construction and other infrastructure. All you get is a hole. A train would also need extra ventilation as it is pushing a lot of air. You can carry a lot more passengers with them though.

Does anyone know if the airport will have any cafe's open besides Tim Horton's for people waiting for the O-Train?

I'm sure there will be more services near the O-Train station in the Airport. It would be great to have Happy Goat Coffee in there, and maybe one at the South Keys transfer station.

Tim Hortons coffee tastes like diesel... The train is diesel... It's a good fit?

The plan is to electrify it eventually though isn't it?

That should be a priority. It makes no sense to replace diesel bus service with diesel trains.

Yeah the placement is truly excellent. How many cities have a train running directly to the departures hall like this? I've never seen a better connection in all of my extensive travels.

It is already impressive with the amount of work that is going on already. Might this line be delivered on time!?

Like the Confederation Line and many other projects, the heavy civil work tends to be the easy stuff. It's also first on the to-do list, not reliant on anything else being done on time. They could be 2 months late right now and we would barely notice.

Delays tend to stack later on in major projects, as one thing runs late and delays other tasks. System integration is a major factor as you never know what you're dealing with when integrating with legacy systems. Hopefully the relatively modern signalling on the Trillium Line makes this easy, but you never know. We also have the trains and maintenance facility to consider.

Understood. We can hope.
