2011 I think you mean.

BC Lions capped off an epic season there with the Grey Cup. Best year when I was a season ticket holder.

Those towers at 1608 W Georgia were proposed in April 2019, and are designed by Pelli, Clark, Pelli. The project still hasn't been rezoned.

That's 1445 W Georgia, designed by James Cheng, which was proposed in February 2017 and isn't going anywhere for now as the developers withdrew the rezoning application.

The 38 floor towers need to be taller for that kind of a prime location AND due to the housing crisis.

The other 45floor tower is okay but again because it is in a prime spot where taller buildings should be constructed (the downtown peninsula). It's a shame that it also isn't taller to meet the demands of the office space and housing space shortages in the city. But I digress, I know that there is some weird view cone probably right in the middle of it all.

But as mentioned before, this is all old news and I doubt we will see any progress during this COVID mess anyways .

No - 1445 W Georgia is on the north side. Currently older small office buildings.

Understandable given the current economy, but rather unfortunate IMO that it isn't going ahead. It would have filled that triangular space well and lent great continuity to the streetscape.

Coal harbour to the convention centre and most of false creek, English Bay and Stanley Park are all of the old order (and there is nothing wrong with that). Granville Street downtown, the new Art Gallery/Robson Street squares, Emery Barnes Park, Hinge Park/Olympic Village Square - all are moving us in a good direction.

Hopefully, the city's old bias for nature over itself is becoming more balanced as it matures. The increasing concentration of our built environment makes true urban spaces increasingly necessary. We, of course, need both. The North Vancouver and New Westminster waterfronts are both well designed, and while they are obviously outward looking linear strips, they also have a stronger character unto themselves. You can see a progression from Stanley Park and Sunset Beach strips, to False Creek's Seawall, to Olympic Village & Coal Harbour, to the North Vancouver waterfront. Each becoming more complex, active and balanced between inward and outward focus.

Who knows where this project fits.
Inward views become more important these days as we pack more people in the downtown core. If you live or work in this area, there are many days and night time where you won't be able to see the Northshore mountains oor any other outward views, and the inward city aesthetics become all the more important.

Thanks to Viewcones policies, the City is doing such an excellent job in covering up the stadium they might as well wall it up completely, so much so that it will turn into a "hidden gem" where one can only see it only when standing metres from the structure.

Im guessing Madison Square Garden is completely hidden on all 4 sides?

Ah, so where the quasi-fire was yesterday:

Turned out to be coolant coming into contact with oil. I wonder if the smoke caused much damage?

BREAKING: Concord Pacific pays $1 billion for St. Paul’s Hospital site
$1.9 billion new False Creek Flats hospital due by 2026
By Jeremy Hainsworth | August 12, 2020, 11:42am

The Burrard Street site of Vancouver’s St. Paul’s Hospital has been sold to development giant Concord Pacific Group for about $1 billion as work continues on a $1.9-billion False Creek Flats replacement facility.

“This is a very important property in Vancouver and we recognize that,” Concord Pacific senior vice president of development Peter Webb said of the land sold by St. Paul’s operator Providence Health Care (PHC).

The development will be mixed-use commercial and residential. What community amenities will be included remains to be seen.

The timing of any development work is contingent on the move to the new site but demolition could begin in several years. Webb said the company recognizes some of the site or facades have heritage values and could be retained.

Webb stressed building and then moving a hospital is a complex undertaking for PHC.
“It really depends on their schedule, not ours,” he said...

It also remains to be seen how high new structures at the site could go due to height restrictions determined by so-called city view cones, vice president David Ju said
There are no plans yet to go through those view cone heights....

Concord Pacific has been involved in acquiring the land since 2019 with approval earlier this year. The deal closed at the end of July....

that is a rather non-commital statement if ever there was. Will they or won't they retain heritage structures?
Only a surprise verdict will tell us for sure, it seems. In a city rather lacking in history and with minimal heritage extant, I would have thought this would receive higher priority.

It's on the "A" list and there is no plan or application yet for redevelopment.

Webb says Concord Pacific has no obligation to keep the existing structure but the historic nature of the building will require some sort of response.

“I imagine that through the process of working with the city and the heritage group within the city we’ll ensure that the heritage element is accommodated for sure,” said Webb.

Thank you for the elaboration on that. Still, I am intellectually curious just how dense, how high and on what design point the new development will be. And for which markets?
