Montreal has one of the best designed metro systems anywhere. If only it were more extensive. There are some expansion plans in the works, but I never hold my breath on these. On the other hand the city is making huge strides with the REM (basically a second metro system, mostly above ground though).

Is there any plan to connect the orange line in Laval as a full loop?

With the blue line being extended into Saint-Leonard, has there been any discussion about a connection from the blue to green lines? I remember some presentation about a BRT.

Not anymore on the first one, no on the second one.

I used to work in Montreal's regional transit planning (now I work for a public transit agency) and the plan, if the Orange line is ever extended, is to bring it to the Notre-Dame/Curé-Labelle intersection, which is almost 3km west of the current Laval terminus at Montmorency. No more plans for a loop, which had many technical issues.

IMO, the better terminus for a Laval extension would be at Carrefour Laval where Laval's CBD currently is, but that's changed unfortunately.

For the Blue and Green line, there has never been an official project of joining the two lines, so it remains fantasy. There will be a BRT on Pie-IX boulevard linking the two lines, but the Blue line extension has to be completed first (2026 is the latest official date).

No work underway yet.

There is a threat of the project being delayed if the government doesn't pass a bill to forbid contestations on the expropriation process. I personally believe that such a bill will be passed this fall, as the stakes are simply too high financially.

REM should makes Metrolinx's agonisingly slow progress on RER pretty embarrassing.

Of the course the true potential of the system will only be know when they make a decision on fares/fare integration. Correct me if I'm wrong but I think Montrealers still don't know what exactly they will be paying to ride the new trains.

I think the Orange line should be extended north of Montmorency too, maybe a station at the St-Martin/Le Corbusier intersection (close to two large malls, many bus stops and restaurants) then to Carrefour's bus terminus to really cement that as Laval's downtown.

That's true for ALL transit agencies. It is expected to be 3-zones fare.

It is expected that this will take the form of a REM line.

It looks like they did not fix the cardinal sin of the Granville escalator, the wall tiles that are perpendicular to the escalator rather aligned with the force of gravity.

Ever lay tile?
If they were going to fi that, they would be cutting a lot of tile. That means more waste, and and more labour costs.

I agree, it does feel spooky though. Whenever I use it, I feel as though I'm about to fall flat on the ground at the end of the escalator.

I doubt that would have amounted to more than a rounding error as far as the budget to build Granville station went.

I don’t mind it at all, I’m too young to know much about Lionel-Groulx to be honest.

That makes total sense to me. Forget, for a moment, that Oscar Peterson was black. He was probably the most famous person to come out of Little Burgundy, and one of the most famous Montrealers. Plus, he was internationally renowned in something, Jazz, that Montreal has some international presence in.

That said, he left Montreal and ended up retiring in Mississauga.

Oscar Peterson should definitely get a station named after him but I feel like Lionel-Groulx is just too cemented into everyone's minds now... It's such a hub

When was the last time a station name was fully changed? Because the most recent name change that really comes to mind is the addition of OACI to Square Victoria and people still refer to the station as just Square Victoria anyway...
