Great video found by one Ottawa forumer Hybrid247. It speaks of how the O-Train network will change the city and shape it over the next 25 years. Awesome shots of the city, the skyline and of course, the O-Train network.

And yet all those interviews are from developers who have dragged their feet on transit-oriented development in Ottawa. The city is still incredibly suburban inside the Greenbelt.

Most of the inner Greenbelt is poorly served by transit, though that does not excuse the lack of development over the 30 years of the Transitway.

Since the start of construction of Confederation, we have seen great strives in TOD around Stage 1 and Stage 2. Starting with development around Carling Station, to new towers and proposals at Blair and a slew of proposals along the Scott Street transit trench.

TOD proposals south of Walkley and east of Blair, other than Trim, is greatly lacking so far.

BAPE documents were posted last week for the Québec City tram project;

Even more visuals in the powerpoint posted June 22. Project has secured funding, running in 2026/2027.

Tram bus portion of project has reportedly been dropped; https://www.ledevoir.com/societe/transpo...i-ressemble-de-plus-en-plus-a-un-tramway

Too bad the Trambus portion was dropped, but I'm not surprised. Quebec City way underestimated the cost. I'm positive Gatineau will do the same, dropping one of the branches completely.

New Skytrain Operation Control Centre. Construction should start in 2021 with opening in 2024. It will be built on the site of OMC2, across the street from OMC1, the main storage an maintenance facility and site of the current operations centre.

The original 1980s Control facility cannot support the upcoming extensions.

Translink is also considering a fourth rail yard (a small storage facility was built as part of the Evergreen extension somewhere near the Langley extension.

Note that Canada Line has its own Operation Centre and rail yard independent of Expo and Millennium.

I took the following yesterday, of the Eglinton Crosstown work going on between Leslie Street and Laird Ave. The following will show the track installation and grade separation along the point where the tracks come out of the tunnel and head toward Don Mills...

It's substantially more than the trambus.

It's the Green Line all over again, disappointing but expected.

I think such a plan could certainly fit in with a longer term project to increase the capacity of the line, it could be an issue sooner than later given the length of extensions to the East and West. I also can imagine trains eventually going driver less and becoming a single unit.
The asymmetric door layout of the citadis precludes that possibility I think. The doors would only line up if the train traveled in the same direction at all times, which we know is impossible. Even if a 5th car is added to each train set in the future, the center module doors are not centered, and so it would still pose a problem.

With 5 cars:

With the current rolling stock, PSD aren't possible because of door placement (module with the pantograph).

https://www.otrainfans.ca/confederation-trains/alstom-citadis-spirit

With the current trains, the system's capacity can double to 18,000 phpd with increased frequency. Once that capacity is reached, an additional module can be added to each car for 24,000 phpd.

I do hope that the next generation of trains will be fully automated single units, which would increase the capacity significantly by removing four driver cabs.

EDIT: I see Hybrid247 beat me to it!

Actually they could do something in ottawa.

Video Link

Just put the pillars of a curtain style PSD where the joints of the train are. Each module is about 12m long.

Ive also seen something similar in Japan/Korea but instead of glass it's a rope system.

Plus with the layout being asymmetric They can also label each cab either A or B. Have A always point west, B point east.

Lionel-Groulx metro station in Montreal has a similar layout of inbound/outbound trains on two lines.

Growing up, I spent way too much time in this station (2-4 times per day).

Definitely the Metro's most interesting station IMO.

It's cool how they designed the station to make flow work inbound and outbound between the two lines.

The Montreal Metro has some of the neatest features - rubber tires, inclines into the station and downgrades out of the station (using gravity to brake/accelerate the train) and this style of station that allows the majority of transfers to happen without forcing people up and down stairs.

Quite clever.
