As I understand it Melnyk's lawsuit is about Ruddy's supposed "conflict of interest" in Lebreton because of 900 Albert. I think the claim is laughable at best and I'd bet it won't make it to judgement and even if it did, I'd highly suspect it wouldn't end up in Melnyk's favour. But still, this development is at the heart of that lawsuit.

I really want this thing to move forward so if it can, that'd be amazing. I just have lost all faith in anything good coming out of this as of late.

What could be the best case scenario, for the City and the Sens, though devastating the the Melnyk family, might be that Melnyk's suit is dropped and Ruddy wins his suit against Melnyk. Since Melnyk doesn't have a billion dollars, a settlement could be... the Sens?

In any case, I don't think the LeBreton arena will ever happen. Even if the City and the NCC was ever willing to partner on a new arena with new owners, that's now out the window with the Covid debt.

I see your point, but hope you are wrong. Government spending will definitely drop, but maybe infrastructure spending will be prioritized. It’s also possible that the economics of development will change in a way - low interest rates and lower land costs - that improves the viability of the project. Agreed that it is almost certain it to be Melnyk doing it.

People have become myopic and overly pessimistic with this Covid thing. If the 1919 pandemic could quickly be followed by the free-wheeling Roaring Twenties, we might just see something unexpected happen. Let's just hope it isn't followed by another massive stock market crash

I imagine the 1919 pandemic didn't come with massive spending to keep businesses afloat, Canadians employed, and others paid during temporary layoffs. It didn't come with a deficit bigger than our average annual Federal revenue.

I tried to stay positive by telling myself that all countries will end up in the same position, but I'm starting to worry, especially in a city where growth is directly tied to the Feds. If we end up with Chrétien type cuts (which were highly successful in balancing the budget and eventually resulting in major surpluses) or Conservative type cuts (where the money saved in the reduction in spending is offseet by pointless tax-cuts), we're in trouble. If someone like O'Tool gets in, where in big trouble.

Indeed it didn't come with support for business nor effective quarantine measures. The department of Health, and much of modern public health was built on the back of it. 55,000 people died. Adjusted for population, that would be almost 250,000 today. The economy also dropped about 20% from 1919 to 1920.

Site Plan Control Application is finally approved by City Council on Jul 15, 2020 (meeting minutes at page 43). So hopefully this goes ahead soon. It's only up to Trinity and the economy now. Rode by on my Bike Friday. No new activity yet. A number of people have mentioned links to Agendas and minutes posted by others do not work. Only Browser Internet Explorer or Microsoft edge seem to work. The City website indicates you must use Internet Explorer. I have 3 browsers and only Microsoft edge works.

It was carried as part of the Bulk Consent Agenda.

Items approved at Committee without discussion go on the bulk consent agenda for Council. They approved that as a whole, rather than going item by item.

Construction is back in full swing, the Ottawa economy is still humming along and demand (and prices) for real estate whether to buy or rent is as strong as ever.. I don't think they will use COVID as an excuse.

They seemed to be very anxious to start and already did the utility relocation, and if a big part is rentals, I'm hoping we can see this start shortly

I believe these are updated plans for the ground and second levels. website claims 18,000 passengers/hr go through Bayview, though that doesn't sound right (even before Covid and the Trillium shut-down).
