WestJet August changes:

LGW - 3x weekly from August 20
CDG - 2x weekly from August 20
LAX - 3x weekly
ATL - 4x weekly
LAS - 2x weekly

Sorry for the post spam, but KLM has also updated it's schedule until the end of the summer schedule (Oct. 24)

Flights will be 3x weekly until end of September than increases to 4x weekly in October.

Correct for Europe. Just LGW for the time being if memory serves but pairings from YYC, YVR, and YYZ on the 787. But again they are just preliminary pairings and won't be official until the routes are actually announced.

YYC-LGW & CDG were both announced today to resume August 20 a few times a week.

Air Canada August schedule changes. Virtually the same as July except for:

FRA - 3x weekly from Aug. 2 (Don't hold your breath on this, it will likely get delayed again).
YWG - Resumes Aug. 1. This was originally suspended until after Labour day.
YYJ - Resumes Aug. 1

YYC-FRA is indeed gone for August.

I wonder if the reason WS is re-launching YYC-LGW and YYC-CDG means that the original intent pre-COVID was to keep CDG year round. There's no other reason to launch again so late in the summer season and I think WS is code sharing with AF.

I believe CDG was planned to go year-round this winter. I still believe this is planned but hard to say if it will actually happen this winter or later on.

The good news is, both appear to have good advance bookings.

I'm curious if WS will still even announce a winter schedule or continue to just continue to do month to month for foreseeable future.

WestJet will probably have full monopoly on YYC-LON for awhile as I don't expect AC to resume LHR anytime soon (possibly not even until S21).

I hadn't come across the London - All Airports code (LON) before . . . I had to look it up!

Some other ones that come up here and there....

Paris all airports - PAR
Moscow all airports - MOW
Rome all airports - ROM
Berlin all airports - BER
Tokyo all airports - TYO
New York City all airports - NYC

and of course, the ones we have here in Canada...

Toronto all airports - YTO
Montreal all airports - YMQ

There's not that many codes like this in the world. I've probably said over 50% of them right here.

Also QLA (All Los Angeles). That one is especially helpful when booking flights to So Cal as there are about 5 commercial airports that (Pre-Covid) used to offer some interesting routings.

Anyone know how LF's are on KLM's flights? Feels like forever to wait for the monthly YYC passenger stats now

We are only 5 months to Xmas and I'm wondering if there will be much improvement in pax numbers between now and then. Almost everyone I know has already made the decision not to fly East to visit family over the holidays this year.

QLA is a weird one.

Airlines like AC, UA or DL don't recognize the code on their booking page. But type in YMQ, YTO, WAS (Washington all airports), DTT (Detroit all airports) or any other ones I mentioned above and no problem.

With August just 2 weeks away here's what's currently planned for flights outside of Canada:

WestJet:
LAX - 3x weekly
ATL - 4x weekly
LAS - 2x weekly
LGW - 3x weekly (from Aug 20)
CDG - 2x weekly (from Aug 20)

American Airlines:
DFW - 1x daily (2x daily E75 from August 18)
ORD - 1x daily

Delta Airlines:
MSP - 1x daily

United Airlines:
ORD - 1x daily
IAH - 1x daily (from Aug 3)
DEN - 1x daily (from Aug 3)

KLM:
AMS - 3x weekly

All subject to change of course. A little surprised United is still pushing forward with resuming DEN & IAH along with upping ORD to mainline.

WS has cancelled LAS in August, and reduced ATL to 3x weekly.

In S21, WS is now planning daily flights to CDG, and has extended FCO's schedule until October 31.

I never understood the resumption of LAS service. The majority of bookings were people doing 3 or 4 nights then returning to Canada for 14 days of quarantine.

I'm not a proponent of government intervention in private business but to be honest I am not sure direct flights promoting travel to US leisure destinations such as Las Vegas should even be allowed at the moment.

LAX and ATL make sense to maintain some thread of network connectivity. This Saturday's YYC-ATL was 100% onward connections.

It will be very interesting to see how tour operators begin selling winter packages and what the uptake will be. If Westjet Vacations or Sunwing sell packages then start cancelling flights things will start getting messy, moreso than what's been happening over the summer. My prediction is little to no sun travel this Fall/Winter.

June numbers are out. Hopefully Q2 will be the worst of it and there is sustained improvement going forward.

I can't believe anybody is booking (unnecessary) vacation travel right now, especially to (or through) the USA. As demonstrated by the UK with their re-imposition of 14 days quarantine on passengers returning from Spain, things can change very quickly (never mind the risks and unpleasantness of travel right now).

Sounds like demand to and within the US has fallen quite a bit recently, particularly as cases surge. AA, DL and now WS have slashed their planned increases in August in response to this drop in demand. Wouldn't be surprised if AC & UA follow suit.

Also LAS was an odd choice anyways.

Here in Canada, looks like domestic travel has improved greatly. Many flights are almost or even completely full.

The June numbers were higher than I expected. I believe currently there's an average of 3,000 pax per day now. (Much better than the 300-700 back in April/May).

Typically WS releases it's winter schedule around this time, but obviously with how quick things change it hasn't happened. I was surprised to even see S21 changes being loaded already. This winter, we might be getting away from the cold in Rainy Vancouver.

For Europe, WS still seems to have good advance bookings for both LGW & CDG in August.

Yep. Westjet interprovincial flights in BC, AB, SK and MB are all seeing healthy loads. Much less so for flights out East. If current trends hold YYC will likely retake 3rd place for Canadian airport passengers enplanements this FY (not that it really matters).
