Nazi is not a slur, was never used in the same way as the N-word, and Jewish people aren't upset by what he was talking about. More theoretical nonsense and for what end? You can't use the word. Grow up and move on.

BLM and others try to make the spate of police killings about race rather than the fact most involve armed people experiencing mental health episodes. So rather than dialogue about mental health training and de-escalation for the police, we quickly slip into fractious echo chambers about alleged structural police racism, based off perceptions of American policing. It's why we don't see Indigenous lives Matter. Even the 'defund the police' slogan is deliberately provocative and inflammatory, and undoubtedly harms the possibility of consensus around constructive police reform. BLM, in large part, are not interested in dialogue but prefer the destruction of current Western society. Gentler voices, if they were given airtime, might de-escalate the growing cultural divide across the West.
Once again I ask, why are police the first responders for mental health calls? Why has no one raised that closing the mental health institutions and tossing all those poor souls to the streets was the absolutely wrong thing to do.

Can you imagine how the cop feels when they get the call of Mental Health Check or Domestic Dispute and are on their way to respond.

"Fuck, I hope there's some experts coming to this call. How did that mental health incident de-escalation training go I did three weeks ago via CBT and haven't had a chance to actually practice? Geez, its too bad that the one guy in the station who used to come to these calls is on sick leave right now, he really knew how to talk to those people. Is this dispute involving Bob and Jill again? WTF did the Crown Attorney let that fucker off? He did a real number on her the last time and still she tried to stab the last cop who put Bob in a choke hold to get him to drop the pipe. I don't want to head into that place alone, thats for sure.........."

Get cops out of their cars
Get the body armour off the cops
Get help to the mentally ill people wandering about the streets

That could be a decent start

Abolish mental institutions! They are cruel!

I wonder if that is how it played out? Conveniently, closing down those institutions also would have freed up some public dollars.

Exactly what I'm saying ^
There's probably broad consensus for reform in mental health policing, but BLM and others want to make a race issue out of a mental health issue in Canada. Because they don't want to end harmful police practices, they want to end western culture. As always, it's not everyone in BLM but a significant part of that organisation's core. It's a sort of anticapitalist, anti-western revanchism under the guise of racial justice. If they can take down the cops, even better. No matter whether they address the actual systemic problems.

It doesn't matter if one is a slur and the other one isn't.

They are both considered highly offensive and hateful in the public sphere, and make a lot of people uneasy, hurt or worse.

BLM motivations aside, it's clear that you can analyze phenomena in many different ways:

By sex
By age
By race
By income
By level of educational attainment
By mental health status
By level of childhood support (single mother vs. 2-parent family or other arrangements)
By preferred profession or lifestyle (e.g. I want to be a doctor vs. I want to be an artist vs. I want to live in a cabin and hunt)

Activists keep trying to narrow the analysis down to only specific identity factors. But a good analysis is multivariate and meaningless correlations without causal links abound. And if you don't understand the causal relationships you probably won't succeed in fixing the problem.

You'll note that this isn't even consistent across areas of discussion. For example sex discrimination and employment is a much more popular subject than sex discrimination and the justice system.

Discussing why you think white people should be allowed to use the N-word is something better relegated to 4chan or some racist subreddit.

It is also the realm of Trump supporters, which is just pointing out the obvious truth. This is one of their cherished conversation topics to waste time and get on other people's nerves.

Alternatively, it might be viewed as a conversation topic about racism for a forum about racism. Unless of course something a Trump supporter (close to half of Americans) might say is automatically forbidden?

When did I say it was "forbidden"?

Talk about whatever you want but that doesn't prevent you from looking like a jackass or having someone point out that you sound just like a Trump supporter because you are saying the exact same thing they do.

A forum about racism is filled mostly with people talking about how it doesn't exist. It's like trying to talk about climate change and having that just turn into a back and forth with people who will never, under any circumstances admit that it is a problem.

Maybe there should be two threads, one for people who don't want to keep dealing in denial and one for those who like to diminish this whole process.

The latest on the Wendy Mesley incident from the CBC:
https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/wendy-mesley-weekly-imani-walker-1.5629414

Gist of the article is that there was a Black journalist present, which apparently aggravates Mme. Mesley's infraction.

Interestingly, it appears the comment moderators are removing comments critical of the CBC. I've watched a number of comments disappear within a few minutes of posting. I myself had the following comment removed and my CBC account suspended almost immediately after posting:

"This is an appalling display of Orwellian logic and infantalizes Black journalists by suggesting they are too weak to hear a certain word used, even in the obvious absence of racist intent."

Something very foul indeed is happening at the CBC. I've been an unfailing defender of the network for years but the current culture there is untenable. If this is the new normal, it starts to lend creedence to Erin O'Toole's proposal to spin it off.

Yes, the solution is to separate into two different echo chambers so that nothing controversial shall harm those who will be offended.

CBCs response is not unique. If Mesley had been an employee for a private network, the same thing would have happened.

If she used the "N" word because it was part of a title of a book and something an author said how in good conscience could CBC reprimand her? The black associate producer who filed the complaint is way out of line. Is she doing this to advance her career at the expense of someone else's?

Best solution for the vast majority of us would be just to cancel CBC.

I fear the CBC is now a lost cause. It will be all SJW BLM LGBTQIA2S+ activism all the time.

I hardly watch the network now. I might just have to place a complete embargo on the network.

I prefer honky, but there are many words other than those which the woke are concerned with which I've found offensive in my life, I've always preferred to not use any of them. So much of the current conversation can seem irrelevant if you've never used such offensive words to begin with.
