Funnily enough I actually went on that website and and asked if they were considering reviewing the viewcone policy. I don't know what I expected but the reply was unhelpful as ever:

"Thanks for taking the time to participate in the virtual open house for Shape Your City Vancouver and asking us a question.

You asked:

'Is the city wide viewcone policy being reviewed'

Our response:

This application will be subject to the existing viewcone policy that is currently applicable.

We hope this information is useful to you.

Regards,

City of Vancouver"

I really hope they're reviewing the viewcone policies with the Broadway plan. I can agree with some amount of viewcones, but they need to be broad and allow intrusions, ie. Having a small point in a view does not ruin it. There will always be parts of the city where you can't see the mountains, its very arbitrary to pick a few spots that should be preserved.

The City can't even remove people for camping illegally in city parks. Good luck with the Viewcones. Absolutely no faith in the system.

I think the pro-development policy days for sole developer benefit are on hiatus.

There' a thread all about the viewcones that was started back in 2009 when they were last reviewed. We know the Broadway viewcones are being looked at as part of the Broadway Plan, but Council hasn't indicated any interest in reviewing the Downtown ones again. Maybe the conversation could move to that thread, if there's further discussion.

And here we are in 2030 with nothing changed.
Exactly.

Anyone know what happened with the development at Broughton and Robson? It's suddenly now a community garden, I assume temporarily. Wasn't a 4 story retail establishment supposed to be going up by now?

Confirmation that Terrace House (on W Pender) won't get developed any time soon. From Frances Bula's Twitter feed. Port Capital have insufficient funds to cover cost overruns, and cannot pay interest to the construction lender.

With the economy in shambles, I think we need to focus on what drives this city, province and even the country: may it be retail, office or residential developments. You may be surprised that construction is pretty much the only industry left that is sustaining every breadwinner and government coffers to offer pandemic assistance, healthcare, among many other things. To put it on hiatus would be suicidal.

Viewcones is just an unnecessary handicap for this city's potential.

That's a shame. Was looking forward to seeing this exist.

Shame that. I was looking forward to watching that go up (albeit blocking my view at the office). Thanks for the notice.

Isn't Terrace House already under construction? I swear I have seen construction underway. I bet another developer will step in to finish it

Am I the only one thinking that the number of new proposals has significantly slowed down in the recent months? Not surprised the current situation considered but we could be in for slower times after projects currently in pipeline finish.

For downtown, yes, but things still seem to be coming out at a decent rate in the suburbs.

But td not as if we don’t already have a glut of decent proposals that would be nice to work through.

STAFF REQUEST: Is it possible for the Staff/Admins to Add an autofit wrapper on all photos so they don't exceed the size of the post. I've run my own large forum for over 8 years and know what an easy fix this is and increases the user experience by doing that tweak.

Please and Thank You

News 1130 is reporting that Vancouver city council has approved a 60 storey tower on Nelson street.
