ahh, I was thinking "de l'Eglise" (the metro station named after said Church) but the skyscrapers appeared to be rather close by. zoom shot. I love the shots with some old buildings in the foreground (bonus marks for Montreal grit). Just way more interesting than a sea of banal blue towers.

The west side of the IBM building really suffered from its height limit (it was originally meant to be 75 stories or so). There's a PoMo Rockefeller Center vibe there.

This picture is old. You don't see the west side anymore. There is a wall of tower in front of it.

I love the Rockerfeller west wall of the IBM. In fact, I absolutely love that tower. It has aged very well.

IBM dwarfed everything around it at 199m until a few years ago. I cant imagine how monstrous it would have been at 75 stories.

Dow's Lake area skyline, with Claridge Icon and the Trillium Line in the middle.

Trillium Line, looking towards Bayview. On the left, we can see Tunney's Pasture and a few new towers near the Confederation Line.

2nd that. It is one of the nicest skyscrapers in Canada.
I also love the CIBC tower across the street.

My two fave Montreal skyscrapers (well, I love Sun Life, Beaver Hall, Aldred, and the old edifice Bell perhaps even more, but they are all a little bit too stumpy to be true skyscrapers).

It’s true that the promoter toyed with the idea of erecting the tallest office building in the country on this property (they wanted it to be 80 storeys), but the project was kill even beford they hired an architect to design it. They finally decided to respect the height limit. Therefore, the present design of the tower by KPF as always been 199 meters. There never was a taller version of this design.

Interesting, I didn't know that. I suppose the proportions have always seemed "chopped" to me.

I remember seeing renderings for IBM tower in the early 80's .It was 37 floors. Maybe your getting it confused with the Place Bonaventura project.

That's a cool picture of Halifax. It looks like the downtown is surrounded by forest.

yes, I clearly recall this when the project was first announced. Us skyscraper nerds got so excited by the prospect of an 80 storey building in Montreal...which back then would have perhaps placed it among the top 10-20 skyscrapers by height in the world.

Little known fact, but when PVM was built in 1962, it was the 20th tallest building in the world.

And FCP was the 7th tallest worldwide in 1975.

7th tallest today is 530m ffs. 20th is 425m
