obviously, I just mean in general, in several pics I've seen. I haven't yet had the pleasure of visiting Regina, so I'm basing my opinion just on the photos I have seen. Victoria Park is the closest thing to a "trendy-ish" looking spot.. so I was just wondering if there were more.. like Winnipeg and their exchange district or osborne village.. Are there any neighbourhoods even remotely similar to that in Regina?

As for your latest back-handed inquiry... Dewdney in the Warehouse district has the traditional bars with the exception of the gay club which is downtown, downtown + going south on Albert to College + West down 13th has restaurants, pubs, and shops. When we're not in a pandemic shutdown, the Scarth Street Mall downtown has a number of patios that usually are quite busy in summer (even into the evening).

All of this as long as all these local places survive...

Maybe I should go into the Manitoba/Winnipeg threads and comment how Portage and Main looks pretty drab...does that mean Winnipeg doesn't have any good areas?

Joking, of course. But it's weird for someone who has never been to a city to pick a random location and say that it should be the hip spot for trendy restaurants (and the lack means that the entire city has none) without checking where the actual popular/hot areas are (including one that is literally a block away).

It's pretty difficult to compare a city with three times the population. Give Regina 700,000 people and 13th Avenue would have taken off as would the west end of 11th more than likely. We'd also probably be able to generate the development interest in the railyards to bridge the gap between downtown and warehouse, but all that is way in the future. 40 years of solid growth away.

If you're looking at my photos I would definitely agree, but I purposely take photos without people for a myriad of reasons, but the biggest reason is they 🞵🞵🞵🞵 from a composition standpoint. Even when you can balance the composition they pull the viewers attention. We're human. When I take photos of the city, I'm looking at the built environment, not the people.

Infrastructure finding announcement yesterday includes two new schools for Regina -- another joint-use school in Harbour Landing and a joint-use to replace St. Peter/St. Michael/Imperial Schools. It'll be interesting to see where they locate the new schools. The community school to replace the three will be infill.

Harbour Landing/St. Kateri is literally bursting with students (I think 900 on public side, 450 on Catholic). The building is really great, but they've got something like 16 or 18 portables already attached (two-storey portables, even), so another school will definitely help.

I do poke my head in the Regina section a lot to be honest.. mostly because when I see someone has posted in the Regina section I'm cautiously optimistic that a new building of significance might be getting built perhaps. I think Regina has a lot of potential.. It has a lovely small but compact sklyine and decent diversity in building types for such a small population.. If I come off the wrong way I apologize for that.. trust me, I'm originally from Mississauga, I get defensive too if I perceive someone may be making a slight at my hometown (and it happens a lot), too because I have some civic pride as well... so again, when you see my name poke around its because I'd like to see great things for Regina. I apologize in advance if my tone comes across wrong.

also, I have yet to visit Regina or Saskatchewan for that matter and I plan to.. so I genuinely have a curiosity.. so thanks to those who answer my inquiries. I do appreciate it.

Really curious to see where this gets built. I'm thinking it has to somewhere along Parliament or further west of Harbour Landing proper all together.

Mississauga does very well. You have a beautiful city centre with many nice office buildings, and you have the incredible Absolute condo towers, plus Square One, and on and on. You have a lot to be proud of there.

It is just a temporary shelter to keep workers, as well as the glockenspiel itself, protected from the elements while rebuilding it from the ground up. Our winters can be extremely cold.

I still think it could get passed but it will be very loud. You can't tell the local councillor, Stevens, wants it but isn't really willing to defy the loud ones at this point.

It's also important to remember that there are people like Bresciani and Bryce who defer to the crazies and always vote against anything with a hint of community safety (even if it's utter BS, like this). Hawkins, Regina's worst councillor, will possibly vote against as he's anti-density, anti-downtown, anti-fun.

Flegel and Mancinelli are probably safe bets for yes. Probably O'Donnell, Young, and Findura and Murray, but absolutely no guarantees with them.

I will be furious if I can't walk to go get liquor.
