Long story short, BMO cheated the
Alberta Historic Resources Act to force the City into agreeing to demolition — at the time the City was actually in the process of designating it Edmonton's first Municipal Historic Resource, but would have to compensate the bank for the 'lost' value of the land; the bank came back with an extremely spurious 'lost' value that council believed, unfortunately.
