Likely with limits as they are also planning on limiting how many flights can be operated to said airports by each airline. Wait and see and we should know later today.

Not just within inflight. Within the whole company.

I cannot think of one airline globally where this isn’t going to happen.
It’s a storm that we will just have to ride out.

I heard the 50% figure floating around is a "worst case scenario." Layoffs are a given, but how many pink slips handed out is tbd.

I'll be watching tonight's schedule update to see if they've finally decided to suspend any routes. So far, nothing's been adjusted.

The federal government is due to restrict international flights to only a few airports. I suspect you will see the schedule adjustments occur after that becomes public.

YYC is included in the designated airports it seems.

It will be the 4 majors.

Is WS still honestly planning to launch Rome in just over a month?

I'm gonna say no. Any remaining European flights as of now are gonna be near empty let alone launching a new route.

My guess is that once all the Canadians are home WS will suspend CDG and move FCO launch. No one if there's enough demand to keep LGW at either YYC or YYZ.

I am going to guess that WS plans to keep LGW going out of YYC, otherwise I doubt YYC would have made the federal government's list of airports continuing international flights.

I believe WS will keep its long-haul schedule as planned until the end of the month. After that, I believe LGW will be kept in some capacity. Maybe it could rotated off of YYZ? As for CDG, I can see them suspending it until May or June. Like yesterday, today's outbound flight to Paris has about 60-70 people on it. Inbound tomorrow is 100% full.

FCO / DUB / GLA will all likely get delayed or outright cancelled.

Also YYC is expecting a 30% drop in passenger volume this year (about 5 million less).

WestJet to suspend all international flights, including US, for at least 30 days starting Mar 22.
Domestic capacity cut 50%.

I expect every airport in Canada to see at least a 20% drop, I'm glad it's only 30% here.

Maybe Montreal will have a more dramatic drop since they carry a high international pax load. Maybe we can retake third for the year.

Not that it will have a huge impact on YYC but Sunwing has also suspended all flights from March 23rd until at least April 10th.

CDG - Suspended until April 22
FCO / DUB - Scheduled as normal. Rome is still scheduled to launch May 2.

That will change very quickly unless you like flying empty airplanes coming up in the next few days. New routes by anyone are going to take a long time to recover when they start again world wide.

January 2020 numbers for Canada's 6 busiest airports:

YYZ 3,825,948 -0.3%
YVR 2,021,535 -0.3%
YUL 1,600,363 +4.5%
YYC 1,337,788 -3.6%
YEG 624,827 -4.5%
YOW 406,382 +0.7%

You're gonna need to giddy up for that to happen. WS cutting 50% domestic capacity and Canadian oil down to 11$ wont help.
