We wouldn't have cut open 3 floors if we were planning on deleting it. We're creating a lightwell that extends from the main floor all the way up to the top. It's an important part of the redevelopment. I hope to provide more details on this one in due time.

That is going to be nice - and bright and people will like that.

Cannot recall if I mentioned it or not, but work seems to have commenced on the new Hyatt/former Enbridge tower on Jasper/102st.

They must have received their BP approval. Nice to see this site humming again.

@SkyriseEdmonton
Wish they would reduce the bulkiness for north south by adding a couple more floors to the north elevation and apply a cascade affect to the whole project (3 parts). The east elevation could use a bit more activation.

Major geotechnical constraints and they wanted wood-framed. We suggested some break in the north elevation by way of masonry to match the south.

I understand that wood frame is what they want to do, but minor augmentation to the front would suffice that. Realistically, all that has to be done is reinforce the 1/3 portion closes to 100 ave section then slice of 2 floors to the 1/3 portion from the south to stack on top to create the cascade.

I wonder what is happening with Maclab ... sure will help fund the towers on 108th where iirc they are a partner or perhaps this is a one-off sale - a leftovers from shared assets by the Mactaggart family. New beginnings in any event.

https://renx.ca/landmark-edmonton-tower-apartments-building-for-sale/

Edmonton Journal reporter got it wrong ... "It was previously a hotel owned by Coast Hotel s and Resorts Canada before being converted into residences in 2013.". It was always owned by Maclab - Coast simply had an operating agreement to run a hotel.
My guess is likely this. Sell off an older, well located asset after a major reno and fully leased. Get some capital for the next couple projects which they are planning for.

Stantec Tower sale boosts droopy 2019 Edmonton commercial real estate market.

The half-billion-dollar 2019 sale of Stantec Tower drove Edmonton’s commercial real estate market to end 2019 on a high note, with a record $1.7 billion in sales in the fourth quarter.

The $1.7-billion bump represented 53 per cent of total sales for the year, show the latest numbers from Altus Group. In total, there were 489 sale transactions, representing $3.3 billion, which is a 13 per cent decrease from 2018.

Ben Tatterton, a manager at Altus Group, describes 2019 as sporadic.

2 Proposed 26 Storey towers for St. Albert - on the old Holes lands where Bontanica is almost wrapping up.

Not sure if this is pie in the sky or not. Or if there is a market for 500 more units in St. Albert.

This may have more of a chance than the Grandin proposal which seems to be stalled. I did notice quite a few rental buildings going up in the NW corner of St Al.

I'm hearing good things about the new digital art in the repositioned HSBC building. I could be wrong, but I think (think) you've beat Vancouver to the punch in that regard.

They are pretty cool. They did a decent job on repositioning that building. A nice new HSBC sign has been installed on top, so I guess we can still call this the HSBC Building.

Any idea what their percentage sold is currently for that first tower?
