I agree with you and so miss the ability to jump on a train and get to the other side of the city easily. However if you aren't coming from/going to somewhere along the line and the feeder network 🞵🞵🞵🞵🞵. You're not much better off. (Source: grew up with Calgary's network)

Our population is about half what other cities have that start laying LRT tracks and by the time we reach that population, the world will have moved on to other forms of mass transit.

My hope (dream) is either an underground network like what Elon Musk envisions with The Boring Company, an underground network that goes point to point. Or something in the sky like SkyTran. (Not to be confused with Vancouver's SKYTRAIN.) An above ground network that is in the air and once a network is fleshed out would do the same. https://www.skytran.com/ (Sorry I don't know how to do fancy links)

Imagine a world with an underground network of traffic with the main ground level road right of ways being used for walking, cycling or even a network of canals. Kayaking to work for my commute would be epic! And yes, I'm well aware this is a pipe dream and I'm sure I'm within the minority.

LRT/Subways have been around for 100+ years and aren't going anywhere. Also, there are several cities in Europe (albeit much more condensed) that are about Regina's size that have some form of rail mass transit.

While I like Elon Musk, his Boring Company and their single-vehicle tunnels are not a good idea at all.

The Boring Company is an absolute joke and should be ridiculed at all times.

No. They are completely different companies with a lot of ideas behind them.

Boring is just a small TBM that is insanely inefficient.

Comparing Europe with North America (especially with how sparse the population is here is like comparing apples and cars. Not alike) It may not be tomorrow but technology is moving to fast now to compare to 100 years ago. We are currently in the beginning stages of EV taking over internal combustion engines, not unlike when the horse drawn carriage was replaced by the Model T 100ish years ago. And as soon as Vehicular Atonomy is proven safer than a human driver things will change drastically and that is coming sooner than we all think.

And again right now it is far from the end goal. Everything else that man touches turns to gold. Everyone thought that about SpaceX and Tesla as well. If the forth rocket SpaceX ever launched exploded like the 3 before they would have closed shop. The Boring Company was not created to make a profit, it was created to try and solve the problem of traffic gridlock and AFAIK very little time is spent on it. But one day...

You know what the best solution for traffic gridlock is? It isn't EVs, or EVs in tunnels, it's public transportation & cycling/walking.

The boring company is a complete joke.

Musk is a complete menace to society. The damage he has done to public transit in the past ten years is disgusting. Great, his cars are electric, but they're still private vehicles and contribute to the urban destruction of our cities.

Victoria Avenue is far superior as an LRT street than Arcola.

Hundreds of stores vs ten stores. Bordered by apartments vs bordered by large lot single family homes.

Arcola is easier from an engineering perspective. But Victoria would have much higher ridership. Places like the old Costco, Park/Vic intersection, and Vic Square offer TOD opportunities where no exist on Arcola.

Agreed, but an absolutely necessary part of the solution is implementing road pricing. As long as it is free to drive on roads, which are incredibly expensive to build and maintain, people will overuse the roads and pay with their time (gridlock). The general population in North America will never adopt active transportation or transit as primary modes if using the road network remains completely free.

Some days yes. Was land speculation involved in the Glockenspiel because that would definitely make it fit the pattern.

Media needs to quit calling it the CNIB building. CNIB offices haven't been in the park for a couple of years now and they are a very small corner of this proposed stupid development. Garbage!

Media also continues to act as if this is CNIB's land - it's not, the Government of Saskatchewan owns this parcel.

Also conveniently ignored is the fact that for the entire history of Wascana Centre, every single Master Plan (except the most recent one, conveniently) called CNIB "non-conforming" (meaning they are grandfathered, but also meaning that if they leave, another similar group wouldn't be allowed to take their place).

oh, and my pet peeve... every single story on Brandt/CNIB building referring to its location as 'Wascana Park.' Wascana Park is a very specific park (behind the RSM) within Wascana Centre. Splitting hairs... but like nails on a chalkboard every time I hear a reputable journalist repeat this phrase. At no point was this building going to be in Wascana Park.
