Eataly would be good since it's not far from Hastings/the Heights known as Burnaby's Little Italy. Might step on Bosa foods which isn't too far away though.

And don't forget Suitsupply is opening their first west coast two level flagship at Brentwood.

And personally, I'm glad it's not going to become the ultra-lux high end fashion district it that was envisioned.

This is going to be a cool mall with great eateries that foodies will flock to.

A supermarket to rival Whole Foods, but that isn't Whole Foods, will be icing on the cake and is what should come next in phase II, where the current presentation centre is.
Agreed. I much prefer a mall at which the average person can shop.

Sure, high end districts are pretty to look at but Alberni feels dead most of the time.

How many watches do they even need to sell per week, month, etc. to turn a profit?

the part of Brentwood that has been constructed was never intended to be the high end part, the high end part is going in the refurbished existing mall in the next phase.

Has indigo pulled out? They don't seem to be promoting them or did I miss it?

It was one of the best when they renovated it about 12 or so years ago?

The Amazing Brentwood

Where they're now trying to rent their units because they couldn't sell them.

Yep. First two towers were both initially planned to be 50% rental units. Only the first tower ended up with them however.

Although it's hard to read the market from that far out, from the absolute swarm of rentals being posted on Craigslist I think this was the right choice.

Good point.
... and I guess we can't forget all the PriceSmarts that were converted to Save-on-Foods yielding more saturation.

Agreed. They seem to be doing well with filling up the new part of the complex.
As for the old mall part, it appears that the renovations will be quite extensive to those parts, so it's no surprise that they have not announced tenants for those retail units.

The question is who will fill the moderately sized "anchor" units.
Whoever moves into those (i.e. off-price arms of luxury retailers) may be apt to lower the "luxury" standard,
which isn't necessarily a bad thing, as they would generate more traffic that ultra high end stores.

Indigo is not listed on the sign previously posted.
But since Coles is an existing tenant in the old mall, maybe they are staying put (as Coles) until the old mall is redeveloped?
(i.e. not moving to the new part)

yea, indigo was being touted as a tenant opening in 2020, but indigo is in trouble now and they must have pulled out or cancelled? or the rumour was just a rumour

Who on Earth would pay to park at Brentwood Mall?

Movie patrons - same at at Marine Gateway (I'm assuming they don't validate)
Does Cineplex validate at International Village?

If I would be to drive to a cinema, I might as well drive to Silvercity to see the movie in IMAX. Which is exactly what I recently did. I did also consider Marine Drive, but your typical driver, I definitely decided against paying for parking.

Besides, if I ever visit Marine Gateway, I always park by the street next to the recycling center. Many people seem to do that.

At International Village you basically get free parking while at a movie. They maybe have a patroller who goes through occasionally. I go to the Fifth Avenue, Dunbar, the Park or in a stretch Silvercity all of which have free parking nearby. I don’t know why anyone pays for Marine Gateway.

You have to pay for parking at a (somewhat) cheaper rate if you see a movie at the Landmark at New West Station.

In Burnaby meters are free after 8 pm. There are plenty of them on Halifax, Alpha and Lougheed HWY. Also you can park on residential street along Brentlawn Drive. Also some meters right on Willingdon Ave. All free after 8 pm. Realistically no one checks them after 5pm since Bylaws work only till 6pm

Really!!?!?!??!
That's amazing!!!
What about yards?

You see, I work mainly in Imperial units.

(*Sorry.
I'm sorry. That was really bad.
Lame dad joke, and I'm really really sorry for that.
I'll now bow my head in shame and go sit quietly by myself in the corner over there and contemplate what I've done)
