Having a regional transit commission makes sense. They have already started co-operating as they will be introducing a smart fare system later this year for Edmonton, ST. Albert and Strathcona County transit systems.

Anyone know why there is no perceivable work being done on the above ground LRT downtown on 102 ave? I see construction materials covered in snow and no workers to be found. What is going on?

They appear to shut down for winter on that section every year. That's not abnormal for civil work...except it's been a massive lagging disruption in the heart of the city.
It's seems like the COE didn't secure or demand continuous work on that sub-section to minimize the duration of disruption. That to me was a huge error even though it would have cost more..

^ This lack of construction along with the general malaise in downtown right now does not portray a good impression of Edmonton.

It's like more a product of handing this off to a P3 with an almost completely open book on their ability and timeline to execute in the effort to secure low pricing.

The more constraints on a contracting entity the high the price, generally.

I think it would have been well worth the higher price to have 102ave completed in as rapid succession as possible instead of dragging on like an open wound. It is frustrating to watch. Heck, I would have been on board with the City incentivizing them through a change order to get moving and get done...

I'm absolutely in support of blitzkrieking projects that are very disruptive. I've sought that approach in some properties I've dealt with. Less pain is a gain.

It's called taking the cheap way out. And that's pretty much the MO for our LRT projects since we made it to the UofA.

The crews proved that if you throw enough people on a portion like they did at the 97st and 100st crossing you can get the work done in a reasonable time.

I did notice crews back on site at Churchill square. they are also removing the canopy by City Centre.

It is not only this project but it seems there is a pattern here with this city of managing projects poorly.

Especially downtown with the general chaos it causes
