With PTC that 30 seconds won't be needed anymore; trains will be able to proceed instantly once the track is clear. This will speed up the passing significantly. It will also drop dwell times in places like Carleton.
Whether or not PTC will improve signal clear times isn't what's most important.

My understanding of the existing indusi system and how it affects trains pulling out of sidings is that even if they get a clear signal, because the track side magnets are the only way to communicate that to the train a train needs to proceed at restricted speed until it can clear the magnet and have its speed limit cleared

This is most apparent as trains leave Carleton. It's highlighted a few times in Shane's video from the simulator.

The PTC implementation could allow for better in-cab signaling where a clear signal immediately clears any speed limits without the train needing to proceed over a track level marker. The end result being that trains can proceed over switches at higher speeds.

Dwell times at Carleton are long because that location is the timepoint for the entire line. Even if the signals clear, the trains will wait there until the schedule departure time. Trains depart Greenboro and Bayview when the other trains depart Mooney's Bay and Carling, so the endpoints can't be timepoints.
It currently has indusi which doesn't officially qualify as PTC according to the CTA (something about not being totally failsafe).

It will be upgraded to an implementation of PTC, but we don't know what exactly that implementation will be yet. I guess it could technically be an implementation of CBTC, but I'd be surprised if it is.

I know some people at Carleton who take it regularly. I'll ask around.

We used to call it getting No-Train'd

I take it occasionally, and walk along it daily. Today was the first time I couldn't get on the train at Bayview, it was that full. Second one was almost as full.

I've ridden the Trillium Line almost daily for a number of years, but generally only in the south half. The first 2-3 weeks of September are always the busiest, and the only times I have been left behind on the 8-8:30am trains. Once Carleton students settle into routine, things seem to get better.

The routine is we stop showing up to our 8:30 classes

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought a chunk of the extension was paid for by other governments.

At the end of the day, this comes down to money. And mostly from other levels of government. Watson has been clear that even Stage 3 has to be fully paid for by Queen's Park and the feds. And he's tired of Ottawa getting a raw deal on funding and loading up on debt. Ask your MPs who are campaigning, why they aren't funding a twinning of Trillium.

Delays on Trillium Line because of mechanical problem with a train at Bayview.

They were tearing down the old platform at Bayview today. Wonder if it's related.

I don't know if it was related to the "mechanical" problems yesterday, but I've seen a few posts now of people saying that there was incident involving a lot of blood at Bayview.

As someone on reddit put it:

Wasnt a [door] malfunction. Someone was bleeding all over the door.

Mr. Manconi just stated that Trillium Line ridership is up to 20K per day (!) since the opening of the Confederation Line from 13K per day a year ago.

Interesting! I have a hard time understanding why. Has the installation of fare gates reduced fare evasion or just collects better stats? Wasn't it 16-17K a few years ago?

Great time for a long-term shutdown.

1 year ago there was a 5 minute transfer walk at Bayview, improving this transfer may have improved desirability

A combination of both maybe. As the only station that did not have fare-gates, I'm sure there was a fair amount of fare evasion. Having a quick and easy rail-rail transfer also makes it significantly more attractive than the rail-bus situation we had for nearly 20 years.

I agree with lrt's friend that this is a bad time to shut it down. Even with Stage 2 complete, it will still be a half-built system (or maybe even a third) with long stretches of single track running on diesel. Next time we have to shut it down for upgrades, ridership will likely be 35K to 50K.

Trillium Line is getting a lot of love in this transit commission meeting. Trillium Line's switches don't freeze, it's more reliable, and city just told me it rarely experiences "wheel flats." #ottnews

They can't build trains, but apparently Bombardier knows how to maintain a transit line.

I could be wrong, but I don't think Bombardier is involved with maintenance of the Trillium Line. That is Capital Railway (the City) at the moment.

There is some truth spoken here. Although I have often complained about the Trillium Line, we have not seen anywhere near the frequency of service problems despite its single track vulnerability. The trains seem to be more robust. Have we ever had door problems with the Trillium Line? I don't remember it.

I agree wholeheartedly on how the Bayview transfer has improved, but I am not sure where those extra passengers are coming from. At the south end, there is little incentive to transfer to the Trillium Line when most buses continue on to Hurdman where the connection is better.

Perhaps, this encourages more Carleton students to use the Trillium Line when travelling back and forth to downtown (Rideau Centre and the Byward Market). Route 10 is no longer viable for this purpose.
